Obituary for Bernard W. "Ben" Monnig

Monnig, Bernard W., III, "Ben", age 77, of Bellbrook, passed away Monday, October 22nd, 2018.

He was born April 27th, 1941 in Cincinnati to Viola (Holmes) and Bernard William Monnig, Jr.
Upon graduation from Xavier University and Detroit University in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Ben went to work for the state of Ohio, Dept. of Highways, followed by several years erecting water cooling towers in Marietta, Ohio. He continued his career at the Mound Labs in Miamisburg, before being hired by Miller-Valentine Corp. as a Project Manager erecting Tilt Up Buildings, Roads and Bridges. Ben also worked as a Project Manager for the Bellbrook Schools, erecting a middle school, high school, and new stadium; and the building of a new church at St. Francis of Assisi. He was a long-time employee and partner for Miller-Valentine Corp. before retiring in 1995.

Active in the community, Ben served on the Jaycees, Bellbrook-Sugarcreek School Board, Children Services Board in Xenia, and the Mental Health Board in Dayton, as well as coached PeeWee Football.

Ben loved the outdoor life and his family the most! He enjoyed horseback riding, canoeing, golf, and boating/family vacations at Norris and Cumberland Lakes. He raised goats, steers, chickens and sheep for 4-H.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Bob and his brother Dick.

Ben is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Kathy; sons, Ben (Tami), Steve (Jamie), Greg (Laurel), Pete, Marius (Rachel), Remus; and daughter, Anca Monnig; 6 grandchildren, Abbey, Max, John, Emery, Stella and Eli; 3 brothers, Bill (Cathy), Mike (Joy), Dan (LuAnn) and sister Carol Lowe (Jerry); former daughter-n-law, Terry Strieter; sister-n-law, Ki; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

You are invited to celebrate Ben's life beginning with a visitation on Thursday October 25th from 5-8 pm at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home, 92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook, and continuing with a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 26th at 10:30 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 6245 Wilmington Pike, Centerville. Father Brian Phelps will officiate. Burial at Bellbrook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimers Association, 31 W Whipp Rd, Dayton, OH 45459 or Alzheimers Research Foundation, 17901 Hunting Bow Cir #102, Lutz, FL 33558.
