Obituary for Georgia "Gigi" Cali

CALI, Georgia “Gigi” A., age 78, of Centerville and formerly of West Carrollton, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.

Gigi graduated from Julienne High School in Dayton, class of 1963. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Dayton in 1967. She worked hand-in-hand with her husband for 28 years running the family copier and fax machine business, known as RAC Copy Products in West Carrollton. She was a member of the Church of the Ascension in Kettering. In addition, she was an active volunteer for the Christ Child Society, and for TWIGS, where she provided service to children in need.

Generous, helpful and kind, Gigi never met a stranger. She was always the first to offer assistance to anyone in need, even during her own battle with cancer. She greatly enjoyed traveling with her husband and was fortunate to explore many parts of the United States and the world. Egypt was on her bucket list, however she never managed to get there. Knowing this, some of her dear friends recently surprised by taking her to breakfast in Egypt, Ohio. Gigi cherished this memory. She and her husband enjoyed dancing and were quite good at the jitterbug. As a teenager, Gigi won a Chubby Checker Twist contest! She was an incredible hostess and loved entertaining family and friends. If you went to Gigi’s house, everyone knew to bring their appetite. Shopping was a favorite hobby, and she was always in search of a bargain. Of course, in her later years, spending time with her 4 grandchildren gave her the most pride.

Gigi and her husband owned a condo in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, where they spent their winters. Fishing from the pier, sandcastle competitions, walks on the beach, and sipping wine at the pool became a tradition, especially when family and friends visited.

Among many things, she will be remembered for her love of Esther Price chocolate, her tasty chicken soup and her delicious chocolate chip cookies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross, in 2010; her parents, George and Theresa Hackenberg; and infant brother George Jr, twin of her brother Jerry. She is survived by her son Tony (Angie) Cali; daughter, Lisa (Ty) Ward; four grandchildren, Ian, Noah, Olivia, and Zach; two brothers, Bob (Olga) Hackenberg and Jerry (Kathy) Hackenberg; one sister, Bernie (Pete) Smith; sisters-in-law, Theresa (Joe) Ditonto and Wanda Pearson; and many nieces and
