Obituary for Louise H. Conrad

Conrad, Gwendolyn Louise Hughes, age 94, of Xenia, Ohio, formerly of Akron, Ohio, Springfield, Ohio and Avon Park, Florida was united with her Savior on the afternoon of July 15th, 2021. Born June 4th, 1927 in Johnstown, PA, she is predeceased by her parents, John and Marian (Shaffer) Hughes, her husband, Samuel Conrad and her sister, Elaine Clinton.

Louise was born a member of the Greatest Generation, watching World War II rage during her high school years. She was raised a firm believer in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and worked hard to raise her children to be strong in that faith. Her entire life was a godly influence to her children, grandchildren, and with anyone she came in contact. Her husband of 32 years was tragically taken so early, when she was just 53. Louise's faith never wavered, and she was always active in her churches, playing the organ, faithfully attending Ladies Missionary Fellowship, and teaching Sunday School for many years. Most recently, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Xenia when she moved and spent her final years in the Xenia Health and Rehab Nursing Home. Louise lived a long, spectacular life in the service of her Savior.

Louise is survived by her brother John "Jack" Hughes (Phyllis) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, her three children, Deborah (John) Cody of Cedarville, Ohio, David (Diana) Conrad of Xenia, Ohio, Rebecca (James) Shrum of Bloomington, Indiana, eight grandchildren, Sarah (Will) Powell, Joseph (Samantha) Conrad, John Cody, Jr., Andrew (Esther) Cody, Paul (Mel) Conrad, Samuel ( Aly) Shrum, Kelsey Shrum, Jacob Schrum, and 6 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held in her honor at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home (92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook, OH 45305) on Wednesday July 21 at 7:00 pm, with a viewing from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. She will be interred next to her husband at East Liberty Cemetery in Akron, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made in her memory to Calvary Baptist Church (1601 W. Second St., Xenia, Ohio 45385). You are welcome to send a condolence, plant a tree and share a story or picture about Louise at www.ConnerAndKoch.com.
