Jack R Round, age 81, of Bellbrook, passed away on Tuesday, June 20th, 2023.
He was born on August 15th, 1941 to Carmine (Carroll) Round and Leroy Round. When Jack was young he became an Eagle Scout before graduating from Belmont High School. Shortly after, he began fixing up cars and racing them. He raced dragsters including one that was a purple 1947 Ford. He pursued a career in music, even moving with his wife, Joan, to New York and cutting a demo track of unchained melody. He sang and played guitar and piano, but his efforts were cut short when he was chosen for selective service and joined the Navy. Fortunately, the military sent him to Spain and Italy, specifically Malta and Naples, until he completed his term.
When he moved home, Jack became employed as an inspector for Dayton Reliable Tool where he worked for 30 years. He took to the work naturally as his grandfather and father were both tool and die makers. During his career, he enjoyed the mentorship of Ernie Fraze, the owner of the company.
Jack loved to travel. He and Joan went annually to a log cabin on an island north of Killarney, Canada. There they spent the majority of their time fishing and relaxing. He also traveled across the country, with Joan and the dogs, in a travel trailer. They showed the dogs, Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier, and were able to finish several competitions as champions. Jack was also an avid and very competitive bowler, managing two 300 games in his career. He enjoyed working outside and was incredibly handy. He was always able to fix and do anything that was needed around the house. Jack absolutely loved spending time with his grandkids, who will miss him dearly, as will the many family members and friends that were impacted by his hard work and care for those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leroy and Carmine Round, sister Carole, brother-in-law Don Omer, and daughter-in-law Sara Round. Jack is survived by his son Scott Round, daughter Saundra Round, son Jack Round, grandchildren Emily and Mason Round, and Tiffany, Michael, and Audrey Round, and great-granddaughter Jayla.
Jack will be laid to rest with a graveside service held in his honor on Wednesday, June 28th, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Bellbrook Cemetery (3939 Upper Bellbrook Rd. Bellbrook, Ohio 45305).
