Obituary

Obituary for John D. Ballard

A supportive and attentive family man, goal driven leader with a humerous and bold personality, John D. Ballard, age 65, of Bellbrook, passed away Sunday, March 8th, 2020 at the Villages at the Greene.

John was born October 18th, 1954 to William Ballard and Ruth (Oberholtzer) Ballard. He was employed as Senior Proposal Manager for CACI International.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Mary (McEnroe) Ballard; daughter, Cathy Goodman (Chris) of Bellbrook; son, Ray Beecher (Christina) of Loveland, Colorado; four grandchildren, Tazheh Kavoosi of Cincinnati, Devin Goodman of Bellbrook, Elaine Wirkus of Bismarck, North Dakota, and Dominique Beecher of Loveland, Colorado; parents, William and Ruth Ballard of Reading, Pennsylvania; and other family and close friends.

John loved all animals but particularly dogs and cats. Because of his love for animals, John wasn't a hunter but he enjoyed practicing and improving his aim at the shooting range. He was an avid and rapid Science Fiction reader who loved cutting edge science. He also loved his job and working in what he called "competitive intelligence". John "Granddad" adored fishing with his grandkids and was considered the "rock" of the family because of his supportive and attentive nature and involvement in each of their educational and life goals.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Sunday March 15th, 2020 from 2-4 pm at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home, 92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook, where we will savor some of John's favorite things. You are invited to share stories and memories at 4:00 pm at the Remembrance Service. A reception for family and friends will immediately follow. John will be laid to rest in Bellbrook Cemetery in a private family interment.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Greater Dayton Humane Society (https://hsdayton.org/donate). You are welcome to send a condolence or flowers, plant a tree and share a story about John at www.ConnerAndKoch.com by clicking on his name.

Uncle John was a great addition to our family. He was a loving and doting husband to Mary, supportive father to Ray and Cathy and quickly became a true stabilizing force in the family. He was always there to provide support in your time of need including for myself. I will always remember Uncle John as the first person I knew who was REALLY into computers, as a maker of great pies, his no nonsense view of life, his quick and dry sense of humor and for his booming belly laughs. Rest in peace Uncle John.

My first impression of my sister's boyfriend was my, he's big, handsome, boisterous and "Katie bar the door" in charge!
Over the years more layers were revealed. John was smart, determind, dependable, generous, kind, witty, attentive, protective. The perfect loving partner for Mary. A blessing to the whole family.
Love you, Pat

I worked with John at CACI from 2006 to 2014. He was good at his job...unflappable...and able to put up with me. John had a wonderfully dry sense of humor that made even stressful situations a little better.

John was our dear friend and neighbor. John and Mary and Dave and I would take impromptu trips and have a great time. John and Mary would every weekend went to an auction or estate sale looking for Mary's antique buys. If there was a bake sale or a bakery there John would find it and bring us home a scrumptious pie to share. We had many dinners together and the biggest prime rib on the menu had John's name on it. John and Mary, John's soul mate and the love of his life, were wonderful friends and neighbors. We will miss him. Rest in peace John.
