Obituary for Katie Lorenz Fetty

Katie (Lorenz) Fetty, age 52, of Spring Valley, Ohio, died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

Born October 31, 1970, she grew up in northwest Columbus with her surviving parents, Byrdie Kay and Ralph Stanley Lorenz and brother Joseph Stanley Lorenz. Katie graduated from Dublin Scioto High School in 1989. Her fondest memory of her high school years was playing the trumpet in the high school band.

Katie spent much time visiting with her grandparents, Raymond and Jessie Lorenz of West Lafayette, Ohio, and John and Mary Kay Czotter of Bellbrook, Ohio. Katie cherished those times together and loved to hear the stories of their pasts. She especially loved the farm at Bellbrook where she and her cousins spent endless hours playing in the barns and fields. Throughout her years in Columbus, Ohio, Katie was a member at the Linworth United Methodist Church where she actively participated in Sunday School, youth activities, and the church garage sales.

After working at various jobs, Katie moved to the Kettering/Bellbrook area. Her compassion and nurturing spirit to the elderly influenced her to become an in-home care giver for seniors, and she continued to do that work the rest of her life. At 39 Katie married the love of her life, Andrew Michael Fetty. She also had a deep love and concern for her step-son Hunter Fetty. Due to Andy's longtime employment that was strenuous, he developed serious back issues. In 2018, Andy was involved in a terrible automobile accident that further injured his back causing him excruciating pain for the next three years. On Sept. 28, 2021, Andy passed away.

In addition to her parents and brother, Katie is survived by her step-son, Andrew Hunter Fetty, her half-sister Amira O’Brien (daughter of her birth mother, Jeri Wheeler), her favorite Aunt Dinah Schwartzkopf, and her close cousins John Schwartzkoph (Jennifer and daughters) and Jim Schwartzkopf (Jessica and sons) and many other cousins. Katie will be deeply missed for her sincere love, compassion, and interest in family and friends. The family is especially grateful to Pastor Darlene Hensley at the Spring Valley Global Methodist Church who devoted much time in grief counseling with Katie, and to the congregation for their outpouring of love for her.

The family will receive friends at the Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home (92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook, Ohio) on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 10:30 am to 12 noon with a service beginning at noon, followed by the burial at Bellbrook Cemetery. Guests are invited to lunch at Marions’ Pizza in Centerville, Ohio afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in Katie’s memory to the Spring Valley Global Methodist Church (1 West Walnut Street, Spring Valley, Ohio 45370) or to the Linworth United Methodist Church (7070 Bent Tree Blvd., Columbus, Ohio 43235).
