Obituary

A faithful believer with a voice made for singing praises to the Lord, Otha A. "JR" Rountree, age 72, passed away on Monday, November 2nd, 2020.

He was born just after Christmas on December 28th, 1947 to Otha A. Rountree Sr. and Francis (Adkins) Rountree. He grew up in a large and busy family as one of eight kids. He learned how to work hard at an early age, and carried that ethic, along with some "Mr. Fix It" skills into adulthood as a CNC operator at General Motors for 30 years, and more importantly, as a husband to Carol, and a father to three girls.

JR was extremely involved in church, serving as a worship leader for over 25 years. His faith was of the utmost importance to him and he loved to dive deep into scripture, studying the Bible with various commentaries and having meaningful conversations about what he learned. He enjoyed golfing with friends, watching his grandkids play sports, doing puzzles, and special family traditions, including weekly family night, yearly beach vacations, and the annual Christmas Eve candle light service.

JR was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Rose Huffman, Lois King, Betty Jones, and brother Charles Rountree. His faith, leadership, and conversation will be missed by his wife of 52 years, Carol Rountree, daughters Robyn Rountree, Kerry Guere (Bob), and Tammy Mangold (Jamie), grandchildren Whitley Guere, and Noah and Ainsley Mangold, brother Harold Rountree (Donna), sisters Patty Bolen and Barbara Green (Paul), numerous nieces and nephews, and many good friends.

To help the family celebrate his life, you are invited to share during the visitation at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home (92 W. Franklin St. Bellbrook, OH 45305) on Monday, November 9th, 2020 from 4 to 6 pm. Funeral Services will be held at 6 pm immediately following the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society (P.O. Box 22478
Oklahoma City, OK 73123). You are welcome to send flowers, write a condolence, or share a story about JR at www.ConnerAndKoch.com.

During this difficult time, if you are feeling ill or unhealthy in any way, you are encouraged to pay your respects in alternative methods, such as sending a sympathy card or sharing a memory through JR's online book of memories, here at www.ConnerAndKoch.com. In addition, the services will be streamed live via the internet. If you wish to view the services on the live stream, please reach out to funeral home to be added to the list. If you plan to attend services in person, be sure to bring your mask to wear while you are inside.

Dave and I will miss JR so much. We loved his worship leadership at Kettering Assembly of God Church. He was a true friend and felt like a brother to us. He is no longer in pain, for which we are thanking the Lord. Our prayers go up for his sweet wife, Carol, and his daughters. We will see him again someday and will not have to say goodbye ever again! Love and Prayers, Pam & Dave Douglas

My daughters and I attended Kettering Assembly for many years, and worshiped the Lord under JR’s direction. He truly helped usher in the presence of the Holy Spirit with his music. I loved singing under his direction.
We were privileged to have JR sing at both of my parent’s funerals. Oh, what a blessing he has been!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Carol, Robyn, Kerrie, and Tammy. We look forward to the day when we join you and JR again to sing and worship our Lord.
And, oh, “What A Day That Will Be”!

We have wonderful memories of being in services with Bro. Jr. He was a very special christian brother. We enjoyed staying in touch with him via Face Book over the years. Appreciated his prayers, encouragement, and friendly chats. He always had a smile and something uplifting to say. He will truly be missed. Our love and prayers go out to Carol and his lovely daughters. They were definitely the reason he was so happy in this life. He was so proud of them, and loved them next to his God. - and let everybody know it! Rest well Jr, until we meet again. Love you. Frank & Diana Campbell
