Obituary

A gentle, funny, loving, and tender-hearted man, Ralph E. Koogler, age 87, of Kettering, formerly of Xenia, passed away Wednesday, November 27th, 2019 at Heartland of Miamisburg, after a battle with Parkinsons. He was born January 11, 1932 in Dayton to Jonas F. and Grance (Fogwell) Koogler.

Ralph graduated from Beavercreek Schools in 1950. He served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Ralph was a member of the Spring Valley United Methodist Church for more than 50 years where he was an usher and had many other service related duties. He worked at NCR for 21 years, Duriron for 12 years, and retired from Beavercreek Schools where he worked for over 12 years. Many of the employees at Duriron would remember Ralph growing potatoes and bringing them to work to sell, and then giving most of them away. He will also be remembered for cutting and delivering thousands of cords of wood over several years. His family will always cherish the memories of packing up and hitting the road for those weekend camping trips. He loved to collect trains and John Deere tractor miniatures, but most of all, he treasured times with his family.

Ralph was preceded in death by his son, Craig M. Koogler, and leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Shirley (Sieber) Koogler; son, Chris Koogler (Diana); two daughters, Cathy Hook (Marcus) and Carol Koogler; six grandchildren, Grace & Joshua Koogler, Kylie Schreibvogel (Chisum), Nick Koogler Brooks (Sarah), and Seth & Derek Hook; two great-grandchildren, Sorrell Schreibvogel and Bodhi Brooks; one brother, Stephen Koogler (Marsha); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Ralph's many dedicated caregivers at Senior Pathway, Buckeye Home Health Care, and Heartland of Miamisburg.

The family invites you to attend Ralph's life celebration services, beginning with his visitation on Tuesday December 3 from 4-7 pm and continuing with his funeral on Wednesday December 4th at 10:30 am, both at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home, 92 W. I would like Ralph's family to know how much he was appreciated by the Parkwood teaching staff. Ralph was always so kind to my children, students, and me. On Friday nights, several of us liked to work in our rooms and get ready for the next week. Ralph was always available to let us into the building. He would make sure our rooms were cleaned so we could work there. We would sometimes bring in pizza and share it with Ralph. He was always kind, cheerful, and so helpful to us. He was a great person, and he will be missed. I am so thankful that I got to work with him at Parkwood.

I always looked forward to seeing my uncle Ralph.
I knew we would give each other a hard time,
the jokes would fly and we would have a lot of laughs.
I loved that about him and will miss our banter together.
He was a big-hearted man.
