Hi, you don't know me, but I was a close friend of Smitty's while in Fort Sam Houston and Fort Polk. I did stop by Fairborne on my way back from Alaska once discharged and stayed with him a day or two in 1990. I am very sad to hear of his passing and regret not looking him up sooner, I meant to, but never got to it. Smitty kept me laughing constantly at Fort Polk, helped make that tour less miserable. I was just forwarded his obit by another Army buddy or I would not have known, Again I'm sorry for your loss.
