Joseph "Joe" Edward Smith's Obituary
SMITH, Joseph “Joe” Edward, age 62, of Bellbrook, passed away Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Miami Valley Hospital.
Joe graduated from Fairborn High School, class of '79 and later earned an Associate’s Degree in Engineering from Sinclair College. For the last ten years, he was a mechanical engineer for Apex Tool Group in Dayton. He honorably served in the United States Army.
Sarcastically funny, strong, and persistent, Joe had a very loving side. He enjoyed fishing at any lake for crappie and bass. Last year, he was so excited when he got a boat to go cast his line in his favorite spots on the lakes. He was a true bargainer at heart. He was always trying to get a good deal. He had a passion for cars and trucks and had more than 100 different models over the years. He liked listening to classic rock music. He enjoyed the challenge that a corn hole game could provide. He was known for being a good blackjack player and enjoyed going to the Hard Rock Casino in Cincinnati to play. He loved his husky dog, Stormy. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Ohio State, and Cincinnati Reds. He loved to eat, any or everything, but especially junk food. He always looked forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas, where he would spend time with the family, enjoy a great meal, and watch football. The family will miss their Sunday to-do lists with Joe and the random adventures that the weekend would bring. Among many things, he will be remembered for the love and pride he had for his wife, Cheri, and his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Vicki Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Cheri; two sons, AJ Smith and Kurtis Smith; one daughter, Brooke (Cody) Fyffe; three grandchildren, Adley, Carter, and Lincoln; two brothers, Scott (Michelle) Smith and Greg Sexton; one sister, Teresa Smith-Barrett; life-long friends, Mike Gerlaugh and Sean Colley; and special friend, John Rancurello, whom he enjoyed sharing coffee and bonfires with during the weekends.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM – 1 PM Saturday, November 25, at Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 1 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences at www.connerandkoch.com.
