Allan Eugene Tate's Obituary
TATE, Allan Eugene, age 81, of Beavercreek and formerly of Bellbrook, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at The Indigo at Beavercreek.
Allan grew up with a strong work ethic and firm moral compass on the family farm on Feedwire Road in Bellbrook. He graduated from Bellbrook High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the Vietnam War as a proud United States Navy Seabee (Construction Battalion). While in Vietnam, he met and married Que Thi Doan "Lily" in Saigon. They were married for 60 years.
After the war, Allan graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a bachelor's degree in engineering. Allan and Lily settled back in his hometown of Bellbrook, building a home on Tate family land and raising their two sons, Ted and Andrew. Allan retired from Dayton Power & Light after 19 years as a civil engineer. He then owned and operated his own landscape company until retiring for good in 2015.
Allan was a good, kind, humble, gentle man. Though a man of few words, he expressed his great love for his family through years of unwavering commitment, quiet, faithful service, and self-sacrifice. He was passionate about genealogy and discovering as much as possible about his family history. Allan also enjoyed watching PBS, eating ice cream, working on computers, fixing cars, restoring his Jawa motorcycle (like he had in Vietnam), tractors, photography, Bellbrook Alumni, and holidays & reunions with extended family. He also found great joy in giving his grandchildren joy rides around the yard on his mowers.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Sarah May Tate; one nephew, Kevin Miller; and one sister-in-law, Dena Tate. He is survived by his wife, Lily Thi Tate; two sons, Theodore Tate and Andrew (Annette) Tate; seven grandchildren, Isaiah, Aidan, Ridge, Blakeney, Allie, Noah, and Evan Tate; one great-grandchild on the way; one brother, Don Tate; two sisters, Julie Rife and Janet (Joel) Miller; two nephews, Justin Rife and Jason Miller; and one niece, Erin Switala.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12 pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. Pastor Paul Norton will be officiating. Burial will be at Bellbrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 am to 12 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Condolences at https://www.connerandkoch.com.
