Alvin "Al" Joseph Lopez's Obituary
LOPEZ, Alvin “Al” Joseph, age 70, of Bellbrook, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
Al, known as “Joey” growing up, was born August 14, 1955, to Kathryn and Alvin Lopez in Levittown, New York. He graduated from Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York, class of ‘73. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton, where he studied history. He met his wife, Carole, at UD, and they married in 1979. Al returned to UD for law school, graduating in 1986. He was an attorney for 40 years.
Al enjoyed watching sports (especially UD Flyers basketball) and playing golf. His favorite souvenir from vacations was a golf hat from the courses he visited. He enjoyed reading, going to the movies, eating spicy foods (the spicier the better), the occasional cigar, and a well-made Manhattan. Al loved the University of Dayton, which is where his father, sister, and daughters all attended. Proud of his Hawaiian heritage, Al carried that identity with him throughout his life.
Al was devoted to his family and was most proud of the life he built with those he loved. Al loved being a grandpa to Violet and a great-uncle to Ellie and Lucy. He will be remembered as a steady presence, someone who may not have sought the spotlight but was always there with a story or interesting anecdote to share.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin (Lorraine) Lopez and Kathryn Lopez; two stepbrothers, Clifford and Neil Considine; and his beloved aunt, Sister Elizabeth Callahan. He is survived by his wife, Carole Lopez; two daughters, Katie Lopez and Christen (Paul) Sushereba; granddaughter, Violet Sushereba; sister, Mary Wing; stepbrother, Keith (Camille) Considine; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
The family will receive friends for a viewing from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. A memorial mass and celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at https://www.connerandkoch.com.
