Amy P. Ziehler's Obituary
ZIEHLER, Amy P., age 52, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
Amy graduated from Bellbrook High School, class of 1991, where she was involved in various clubs, the band, and excelled in both track and cross-country. At the end of her high school education, Amy enrolled at Wright State University. She was involved in various clubs, enjoyed listening to Pete's radio shows on WWSU, and was even given the chance to study abroad in Brazil as an exchange student, a cultural experience and family connection that Amy cherished throughout her life. She concluded her education by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Wright State University, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.
Using her registered nursing (RN) degree, she has worked at Grandview Hospital and later at a local dialysis center. She cherished her coworkers and her patients and was proud to display the extreme pride and hard work she had learned from her parents. She later finished her career as a nursing instructor at Ohio Medical Career College in Dayton.
As a devout Catholic, Amy was an active member of the St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Centerville. With a passion for seeing others learn and thrive, she served as a 2nd-grade religious education teacher, was instrumental in assisting with the Sacrament of First Communion, and volunteered as a Vacation Bible Camp coordinator. She also helped establish the Sunday religious education program at St. Francis of Assisi. In addition, she volunteered as a Bellbrook PTO building representative and played a significant role in timing for the Brookview and Bellbrook High School swim teams.
Kind, gentle, giving, selfless, and caring, Amy grew up with strong family values that were cherished throughout her life and carried over to her spouse and children. While growing up, she enjoyed numerous snow skiing trips with her parents and brother to the Rocky Mountains, the upper eastern part of the United States, Canada, and beyond. In addition, her parents owned a beautiful trailer overlooking the picturesque Wolf River at Dale Hollow Lake, where they enjoyed quality family time together playing games, grilling out, and boating on the lake. Of the many thrills afforded on the lake, Amy especially loved the many long summer days floating in the water behind the boat, relaxing in the many peaceful coves that Dale Hollow is known for.
After Amy and Pete got married and had children, her love of spending time with family while traveling continued. She enjoyed trips to see Elton John in concert in Kentucky and Queen with Adam Lambert in Minnesota, a Caribbean beach trip to St. Croix, and a Broadway-focused trip to New York City, often focused as a girls' trip accompanied by one or both of her daughters and her mother, with the intention of spending quality time together.
However, it was the many family beach trips to Oak Island, North Carolina, that became one of Amy's favorite traditions. In addition to renting a local cabin, the fun-filled tradition included walks on the beach, visiting local shops, exploring coastal lighthouses, and dining at the many well-known restaurants serving local seafood in the area. In particular, dining at the Fishy Fishy Cafe became the family's favorite restaurant, and it is a place they will look back on fondly as one of their favorite memories from those family trips to Oak Island.
Amy's hobbies included scrapbooking, walking her beloved dogs, and baking for her family. Her family especially enjoyed her delicious pumpkin bread, brownies, and peach roll, the latter of which Amy made especially for her father, who enjoyed it so much. Amy collected items featuring lighthouses and a wide selection of unique shot glasses, which she collected to remember special trips she had enjoyed. Among many things, she will be remembered for how much she adored walking her beloved dogs, Lily and Piper. She will also be remembered for how much she loved her family, from those she grew up with to the family she built with her husband and kids, and the extended family who felt her love. The love that she shared each year when gathering at her mom's home during Christmas Eve for the "dessert party" and at the Eby's house during New Year’s Eve. Amy is survived by her husband of 29 years, Pete; three children, Gabby, Adam, and Natalie; her parents, Paul and Sue Salmons; her brother, Joe Salmons; her mother and father-in-law, Marg and Tony Ziehler; her brothers and sister-in-law, Bill Ziehler (Amy Tesolin), Tom (Doreen) Ziehler, and Shelly (Thom) Eby; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and close friends.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 24, at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial service will immediately follow the visitation at 1 PM on Thursday at the church, with Father Brian Phelps officiating the service. Burial will be in Bellbrook Cemetery. Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to the James Cancer Center, https://giveto.osu.edu/makeagift/details/313431.
