Ann Lucinda Skolik's Obituary
SKOLIK, Ann, age 83, of Dayton, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Ann Skolik (née Babcock) was born on March 27, 1943, in Sidney, Ohio, and died on July 16, 2026.
She has been surrounded in love by her adoring husband of over 60 years, William Charles Skolik; her three children, Dr. Suzann (Susan) Steadman of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Steven (Kari) Skolik of Dayton, and Stacie Jo Perry of Dayton; her four grandchildren, Joseph and Lucas Steadman, Taylor (Matthew) Pentecost, Jackson (Jennie) Skolik, and Josephina (Evan) Brown. She was blessed to be lovingly adored and followed around all day long by her sweet dog, Obi. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Guzelda Bernadine (née Lucas) Babcock and Edgar Cleophus Babcock, as well as her beloved oldest grandson, Joseph Alexander Steadman.
Ann has always lived in Dayton and attended Cleveland Grade School, Belmont High School, Capital University in Columbus with a degree in Education, and the University of Dayton Graduate School for multiple advanced degrees in Education and Psychology. She was a talented teacher and psychologist, and she loved learning as much as she loved teaching.
Bill was her life’s love, and they started dating early in high school, continued to date long-distance throughout college, and married in 1965. They have served as a beautiful example of how to live in a committed, dedicated marriage and have modeled unconditional love and respect for everyone who knows them.
Ann was a past member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and was then a member at Kirkmont Presbyterian Church for the next nearly 50 years. At Kirkmont, Ann served as an Elder, VBS leader, youth group leader, and head of women’s Bible study for multiple groups. She also served on the Member Care Committee. Ann loved the Lord and really valued her church relationships and activities.
Ann adored her children and her grandchildren more than anything and saw her specific calling as helping each of them know of God’s grace and love bestowed on every single one of His children.
Initially, after college, Ann taught 1st and 2nd grade in Dayton Public Schools and then stayed home with her children for their early years. She taught preschool for many years, started an “Evergreen Club” for neighborhood children, worked many, many years of VBS, was a Girl Scout Leader, and served as a chaplain at Kettering Hospital.
Ann worked in several capacities over her 43-year career at Dayton Christian Schools. She was a special education teacher, school psychologist, and Director of Special Education and Psychological Services. She believed deeply that all children are gifted with God’s grace and worked to guide all of her students to recognize their gifts and potential.
Ann had more friends and people who loved her than could possibly be named, but she loved her nieces, Adrienne, Kristin, and Casey; and the rest of her Skolik/Diaz family. Bill’s siblings, David and Toni Jo, became like her siblings, as Ann was born an only child. She also deeply loved her goddaughter, Lynne Goette Morella.
Amazingly, Ann’s college friend group has stayed close to this day, and they have reunited annually for 50 years or more; their families have become her family. Betty Lett has been Ann’s trusted friend for over 50 years, and Betty was there -along with her children and grandchildren - during the final week/days/moments of Ann’s beautiful and bountiful life.
Throughout her life, Ann was known as a loving and dedicated daughter; faithful wife, “Annie Bananie”; amazing “Mommy”; “Grandma”; “GMa Ba”; “my favorite teacher”; “the most generous friend”; faithful prayer partner; and, above all, a lovely and deeply loved human being. She will be dearly missed by everyone who loved her, but even as we grieve the loss of her from our lives, we celebrate the knowledge that Ann Skolik is now experiencing God’s eternal grace. “Well done, my good and faithful servant!…” ~Matthew 25:23
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Monday, July 27, 2026, at Kirkmont Presbyterian Church in Beavercreek. Pastor Dan Borgelt will be officiating. Burial will be at Mount Zion Park Cemetery in Beavercreek. The family will receive friends from 12 pm until 2 pm on Monday, July 27, at the church. Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook is serving the family.
