Arlene Glass' Obituary
Frances Arlene Glass
January 30, 1927 – May 4, 2022
F. Arlene Glass, 95, of Clayton, Ohio, was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 4th, 2022. Her husband and love of her life for almost 70 years, Pastor Roy Glass, Jr., preceded her in death, 4 years ago and met her at their prearranged meeting place, just inside the Eastern Gate. She was born January 30, 1927 at her home in Altoona Pa, where her parents, Blanche Linville (Carson) and George August Sommer welcomed her into this world. She was the last of her generation, being predeceased by her brother George Harvey Jacob Sommer, her sister Iva Mae Shirley Stevens and the little sister she never met, Annabelle Sommer. She was also predeceased by one Son-in-Law, Bruce Grafton Bonham in February of this year and her great-great granddaughter, Shiloh Jade Wade in December of 2021.
She was wondrously loved in this world by her seven children and their families: Rick Glass (Deb) of Winona Lake, IN, Ardith Bonham of St. Augustine, FL, Joy Cornelius (Lee) of Tipp City, OH, Roy Glass, III (Carol), of Covington, OH, Lori Zastrow (Greg) of Miamisburg, OH, Lisa Brady (Scott) of Myerstown, PA, and Jon Glass (Annette) of Englewood, OH.; 23 grandchildren; Tim Glass, Mike Glass, Heather Wade, Heidi Dolbee, Holly Hummitch, April Hollinger, Jessica Pycraft, Amanda Greene, Josh Bonham, Tracy Geaslen, Joel Cornelius, Ryan Cornelius, Roy Glass, IV, Adam Glass, Amy Pemberton, Philip Zastrow, Jason Zastrow, Sarah Dafler, Katie Huss, Allison Ferron, Drew Brady, Audrey Booher, and Madison Millette. She is also survived by last count, over seventy great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Arlene joined with her husband in ministry at 8 different congregations over the years, Glade Mennonite church near Accident MD, Juniata (PA) Grace Brethren Church, Minerva (OH) GBC, Fairlawn (VA) GBC, and Troy (OH) GBC, Huber Heights GBC and Northwest Chapel in Dublin, OH. She would help in leading women's ministries and children's church, VBS and backyard Bible clubs as well as accompanying the worship singing and choirs on the organ. With each new move, she would find fulfillment teaching in a local school in the area, working with children with learning disabilities. She finished her teaching career of over 28 years in the Miami East school district where she retired after 17 years at the age of 69. She faithfully served at various Grace Brethren Summer Camps in the dining hall over the years where she taught the campers the proper way to set the table, to always eat everything they put on their plates and to take their hats off when they entered the building.
She will be sorely missed by all her grands, who always found room on her lap, where they would sit, while she read them a story or sang them a song. She loved Jesus, she loved her family, her many students over the years, and her various church families where she and Roy served.
She attended the Basore Road Grace Brethren Church in Trotwood where she was a faithful member in her retirement years. A memorial service will be held at the church on Saturday, May 14th at 1:00 pm and an ice cream social will be held following the service. Memorial contributions may be donated in her honor to her church.
She will be laid to rest in the Brumbaugh Cemetery beside her husband in Fredericksburg, PA on Monday, May 16th at 1:00 pm.
