Audrey A. (McKelvey) Brown's Obituary
Generous, loving, and carefree, Audrey A. (McKelvey) Brown, age 77, of Dayton, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 9th, 2022.
Audrey was born the youngest of eleven, on September 15th, 1944 to Anna (Mulligan) McKelvey and Thomas McKelvey. When she was still very young, Audrey had to brave the loss of both parents, being raised and cared for by her many siblings until college, where she earned an Associate's degree. She married Richard Brown on Christmas Eve in 1970 and spent many years raising kids and making the best home-cooked dinners and baked goods. She loved both things, kids and cooking, so much that for 25 years she ran Brown's Childcare and continued to expand her portfolio of family favorites. She made the most delicious stuffed peppers, spaghetti, shepherd's pie, cabbage rolls, and pizzelle cookies.
Her love for cooking and baking was an extension of her love for others. She enjoyed giving. Whether she was providing satisfied appetites and happy tastebuds, or items she found while online shopping, she truly had a generous heart. Her caring nature also applied to animals and pets of all kinds. Over the years she had cats, dogs, birds, guinea pigs, bunnies, and even squirrels.
Audrey loved to play games, from euchre and canasta to bingo and word searches, she especially enjoyed any opportunity to play with her family. She was a movie buff, enjoying a wide variety of genres that miraculously included both Lifetime movies and "The Godfather." She enjoyed shopping, specifically for antiques, purses, and Calvin Klein's Euphoria perfume, and loved going out to eat at local favorites like Elsa's, Barrel House, Slims, and The Village.
Audrey made friends easily and didn't know a stranger. She was supportive, self-assured, and just the right amount of stubborn. She treasured time with her family, especially the always-favored grandkids, and they will miss her greatly.
She is survived by her children, John Brown (Ruth), Theresa Kattman (Jeff), Mark Brown (Jessica), Natalie Kildow (Justin), grandchildren, Stephanie, Crystal, Tiffany, Johnny, Alyssha, Tyler, and Valerie, 16 great-grandchildren, and siblings Thomas, Barbara, and Rita. Audrey was preceded in death by her husband Richard Brown, parents Thomas and Anna McKelvey, brothers, Bernard and John, and sisters, Cathryn, Anna, Mary, Cecilia, and Margaret.
To help the family celebrate her life, you are invited to share during her visitation at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home (92 W. Franklin St. Bellbrook, Ohio 45305) on Tuesday, February 15th, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Audrey's Life Celebration Services will be held on Wednesday, February 16th, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home with burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery.
