Barbara A. Fryman's Obituary
FRYMAN, Barbara A., age 63, of Bellbrook, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at her residence.
Barbara earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Dayton. In addition, she earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Social Work. She retired as Diversion Director for the Greene County Juvenile Court, a career she took great pride in. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Centerville.
Bubbly, caring, giving, and joyful, Barbara was family oriented and loved to smile and laugh. As upbeat and bubbly as she always came across to people in her everyday life, Barbara was also known to be more stern and serious in her work life. She cared deeply for the children who passed through the juvenile court system. She always insisted, especially with a wave of her finger, that they not return by staying out of trouble.
Barbara enjoyed music and theatre arts. Specifically, she enjoyed playing the flute in the pep band while attending UD and also in the orchestra at her church. In addition, she greatly enjoyed attending Broadway shows at the Victoria Theater in Dayton. With her background in criminal justice, Barbara loved watching suspense-filled crime shows on TV and reading fictional novels involving legal and crime thrillers. She especially enjoyed reading novels by John Grisham. Above all, her favorite way to spend her time was attending the events and activities of her children.
Barbara enjoyed many traditions throughout her life. During her younger days, she often visited her brother in Montana. Her mother was one of 13 children and grew up in the upper New York state area. Trips to visit her mother’s family were a common occurrence and something Barbara enjoyed. In the summer months, she participated in outings and activities with the kids passing through the juvenile court system, always to ensure they had a positive influence for their future. Other traditions included Olive Garden dinners on birthdays, going to get ice cream with her children following their doctor visits, and playing cards and Dominos during family get-togethers. Among many things, Barbara will be remembered for her unique hum-like whistle she often did, her love of hummingbirds, and the whimsical way she turned her spoon upside down while eating ice cream from Dairy Queen.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Betty Acra. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Chuck; one son, Ben Fryman; two daughters, Ellie Fryman and Abby Fryman; four brothers, Walt Acra (Lynn), Charlie (Michelle) Acra, Mike (Jackie) Acra, and Joe (Joy) Acra; and two sisters, Mary Kay (Tom) Mikolajewski and Patty Acra (Earl Speers).
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 10, at Conner and Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 11, at St. Francis of Assisi in Centerville. Burial will be at Bellbrook Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences at www.connerandkoch.com.
