I have tears in my eyes just trying to come up with the words to express my love for Barb and respect for her as a colleague, a teacher, and a person. A beautiful soul, Barb was a passionate teacher who genuinely cared about her students. For those who took the time to know her, they found a dedicated mentor who put students first. She believed in her students, and continually challenged them to think and grow as life-time learners. Earning an A in her class was just that--a grade EARNED through effort, diligence, and comprehension. She did not allow short cuts, but would provide hours of help for those students who sought it.
I remember after a terrible tornado went through southern Missouri, Barb immediately collected prom attire and sent it to the local high school at her own expense so that their students could still enjoy a special night, despite the devastation in their town.
Barb and I also shared a love for animals, and we worked with students to raise money for local animals in need. These are just two examples of Barb's selfless dedication and commitment to students that took her well beyond the walls of her classroom and impacted students in immeasurable ways. She touched so many lives as an educator, and a mentor for good.
Rest well, my friend. You are one of the brightest stars shining down upon us.
