Barbara E. Harrell
the oldest of two, was born Aug. 3, 1924 in Tazewell, Tennessee to Lottie Adeline (Cheek) and James Madison “Matt” Logan. Barbara passed away Thursday Oct. 23, 2014 in Dayton, Ohio, at age 90. She loved growing up and living for 40+ years in Tazewell before moving to Monroe Michigan where she also was happy to call home for more than 40 years. She worked as a sales associate for Cunningham Pharmacy in Tazewell and for a fabric store in Monroe. Barbara was a devoted supporter of the Humane Society and an advocate for peace among people. She enjoyed sewing, making clothes and other items for family and friends. Preceded in death by Johnny Atkins, her lifelong companion, and her parents, Barbara is survived by her brother George Cheek, niece Cynthia Dunsmore (Aaron), nephew Doug Cheek (Tammy), all of Tazewell, cousin Terry Heck (Brooks) of Kettering, Ohio, and Johnny’s son Bobby Atkins (Laura) and their sons Robert and Mitch. The family will receive friends Sunday Oct. 26th from 1-2 pm at CONNER & KOCH Life Celebration Home, 92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook, Ohio (937-848-6651). A life celebration will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Terry Heck and Rev. Brooks Heck officiating. Interment will be 2:00 pm Monday at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, Michigan. Because of Barb’s love for animals, contributions may be made to the Humane Society of the United States, P.O. Box 97015, Washington, D.C. 20077-7656.
