Betty J. (Shaw) Dumford
Of Bellbrook, was born Dec. 1, 1925 in Dayton to Eva (Lindamood) and Earl Shaw, the second of five children and the eldest daughter. She attended schools in Dayton until moving to Bellbrook where she attended high school. While there, she met her future husband Ralph Dumford. After Ralph served his country in the Army during WWII, Betty and Ralph were married and began their family. In her younger years, she enjoyed gardening and canning. She also liked to sew using needlepoint, cross-stitch and embroidery. Betty loved to cook and bake and her family fondly remembers her baking buttermilk, oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies. She thoroughly enjoyed reading books of all kinds, magazines and newspapers. Betty was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and enjoyed listening to them on the radio. She was fond of antiques and antique sales. Above all else, Betty loved her family and spending time with them, whether it was going to Bob Evans or Frisch’s for lunch with her daughters or attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. Betty passed away Tuesday January 6, 2015 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother James. Betty is survived by her three daughters Jennie Copley (Tim) of Kettering, Susan Spurrier (Wayne) of Beavercreek, Becky Meyers (Joe) of Beavercreek, son Tim Dumford (Sherri) of California, 12 grandchildren Kelly (Mike), Brian (Melinda), Doug (Kristina), Amanda (Gaelan), Matt (Mary), Mike, Jason (Chelsea), Melissa, Scott, Stacy (John), Stephanie (Moody), and Danny (Katie Jo), 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, three sisters Phyllis Spahr of Beavercreek, Pat Barnett of Centerville, and Earlene Reed (Kenny) of Xenia, and numerous nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends Friday January 9th from 6-8 pm at CONNER & KOCH Life Celebration Home, 92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook (937-848-6651). Betty’s life celebration will follow Saturday at 11:00 am with Rev. Kathy Horne officiating. The burial will be in Bellbrook Cemetery.
