Betty Louise Lantz (Cordell)'s Obituary
Lantz, Betty Louise (Cordell) Randall of Sycamore Glen Retirement Community, died April, 15, 2016 in Dayton, OH. Born February 12, 1926 in Galloway, OH. Graduate of Central High School, Columbus, in 1944. What a beautiful woman she was — a force of nature! Her happiest childhood times were spent in the summers at her Grandma and Grandpa Cummins farm in Galloway, OH. She helped with threshing, hoeing, and gardening, and loved Laddy the farm’s dog, and May and June, the farm’s horses. She loved to swim in Hell Branch creek. Betty had a burning desire to become a pilot. Her motto was “I'd rather be flying!” She was active in sports, including softball, volleyball, and basketball. She also loved singing and performing in many musical and choir events. During WW II she learned Morse Code and participated in plane spotting. She had many careers, including working at Timken aircraft plant during the war; serving as a secretary, sales clerk, supervisor, and manager; she enjoyed being a bookkeeper for several businesses, including Scioto Downs; was an Employment Counselor at Snelling & Snelling; and her favorite career was being an Interior Designer at Lazarus. She loved nature, gardening and feeding all the birds in Grandview Heights, where she lived for 60 years. She was a race car driver. And won many drag races that her 4 daughters remember her winning with great skill. She was also an accomplished artist and had many oil paintings entered in shows and hung in galleries. Betty is predeceased by her first husband, Wayne E. Randall, and her second spouse, James T. Lantz. She is survived by her daughters Nancy Lee Randall Burger, of St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, and her adult children, Jessica Winship (Dr. Ian Winship) and 2 children, Emily and Benjamin, Sherwood Park, Alberta; Julia Burger (Noel Ballard) and 2 step-daughters, Maia and Sophia Ballard of Nakusp, British Columbia; and J. Joshua Burger, of Edmonton, Alberta; daughter Conny Sue Riddell (James III) of Bellbrook, OH, and their sons, Dr. James Riddell IV(Dr. Vivian Lin) and 2 children, James V and Matthew all of Ann Arbor, MI; and Jeremy R. Riddell of Cincinnati, OH. She was predeceased by her daughters Julie Halley of Scottsdale, AZ, and Christy Randall of Columbus, OH. Betty is predeceased by her parents, Anna and Oscar Cordell, and her brothers, Donald and Robert, and is estranged from her sister Charlene Morgan. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2016, 1:00 pm at Paint Township Cemetery, 1877 Old Xenia Road SW, London, OH. The family has asked that instead of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Wilderness Society, 1615 M Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20036 or Ohio's Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.
