Billie Sweet's Obituary
SWEET, Billie Janis, age 84, of Sugarcreek Township Ohio (Bellbrook), passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023.
Billie earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Ohio University, followed by a Master’s Degree from Wright State University. She spent her working career educating special needs children, beginning at Bellbrook-Sugarcreek School District followed by Oakwood School District. She retired from Oakwood Schools after more than 20 years of service.
As the wife of an Air Force officer, Billie found herself active in several groups that involved the military wives. She shared many assignments with her husband across the United States and England, while raising their boys.
Intelligent, caring, giving, loving, independent, and accepting of others, Billie was always thinking of what she could do to assist others. She greatly enjoyed reading. She enjoyed all kinds of reading material and especially mysteries. She accumulated a large collection of books which switched to electronic versions in the last few years. She was an excellent cook and was active in a cooking club for many years. She will be especially remembered for her homemade stroganoff, vegetable soup, and her cookies, the cookies of which became a Christmas tradition. Her other hobbies included knitting and sewing, dining out, bowling in leagues with her spouse during her younger days, and working the NY Times crossword puzzles. She had an amazing ability to complete a crossword puzzle extremely fast and thoroughly. She was an animal lover and always had dogs and cats around the house.
Billie and Chuck also have a cabin in Cadillac, Michigan, at the Caberfae Peaks Ski Resort, where they greatly enjoyed getting away and enjoying the quiet life of nature. Chuck enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing while Billie enjoyed cooking, reading, and cross-country skiing. She never shied away from cooking the wild game that Chuck had harvested. It was also a tradition for Billie to make the birthdays of her family members special occasions. She always took birthday celebrants shopping and bought them multiple gifts. She will always be remembered for often bringing cheese trays and shrimp to all the family get- togethers. With her accepting and gracious personality, Billie often provided flowers for her daughters-in-law throughout their time together.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Dottie Meldrum; her brother, Jerry Meldrum; and sister Peggy Duvall. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Charles “Chuck”, three sons, twins Russell (Nancy) and William “Del” (Lauren) Sweet, and Dean (Tonya) Sweet; and three grandchildren, Chad Sweet, Tyler Sweet (fiancé Alyssa Roberts), and Craig (Jamie) Keiter.
