I became acquainted with Claire Whitford working with him at the hospital. He loved to cut trees for firewood, and I went with him several times when he did so. I remember his spitting wood by use attaching an augur to the rear axle of an old car or tractor. When he had his Morton barn built, he had the Morton \u201cM\u201d turned upside down so that it was a \u201cW \u201cfor Whitford.My wife was in a singing group called the Dedication singers, which Clair Whitford was a part of.
