Claude L. O'Connor's Obituary
O’CONNOR, Claude L., age 77, of Dayton and formerly of Texas, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
Claude honorably served in the United States Marines, where he earned the distinguished Purple Heart award for courage and bravery while being wounded in combat in Vietnam. He was discharged from the Marines as an E-5 Sergeant. Among other jobs following his military career, he worked as a pipe fitter for Monsanto for many years.
Caring, giving, generous, and often ornery, Claude loved to talk and share stories with friends and family. His wife of 34 years, Elizabeth, was the love of his life, and they pretty much did everything together. Along with his parents and several siblings, Elizabeth preceded him in death in 2022. Sitting on the front porch together, Claude and Elizabeth enjoyed chatting with neighbors and watching people drive by was one of their favorite activities. They also loved to visit Hollywood Casino trying their luck on the slot machines. Claude had a special skill for woodworking, and while living in Texas, he had a wood shop at his home and a small store front where they sold the items he artistically created. Among many things, Claude will be remembered for his amazing yard art and landscaping. Specifically, his rock gardens and stone statues were marveled by the community. Kids especially enjoyed walking by and seeing all of the unique things he had displayed. In addition to some of the more common features, he displayed gargoyles, turtles, and a dragon, all made of stone.
Private family services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. Conner & Koch Funeral Home is serving the family. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
