Deloris B. Hopkins' Obituary
HOPKINS, Deloris B. (aka “Dodie” and “Dee”), age 96, of Kettering, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Bethany Lutheran Village.
Dodie worked for over 20 years as a nurse for The Mound in Miamisburg, retiring as the head nurse in 1990. She was an active member of the Ohio Nurse’s Association. As a respected RN, she achieved status in the association and formerly served as their president. She was also a member of the Church of the Cross United Methodist Church in Kettering and the Ohio Order of the Eastern Star in Belmont.
Educated, hard-working, caring, and professional, Dodie greatly enjoyed square dancing, sewing, and family get-togethers. She was a member of the Square Dancing Club of Dayton with her husband. In addition, she participated competitively in several events and conventions and often traveled with the dance clubs for vacations. It became a tradition for Dodie and her husband to spend the winter months in Largo, Florida, where they thoroughly enjoyed the friends they made and the activities. They also enjoyed traveling together to many exciting locations, including Alaska and Spain. Among many things, she will be remembered for her love of clowns.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 2020; her parents, Harry and Doris Bailey; one brother, Richard; and two sisters, Helen and Sue. She is survived by two sons, Randy (Ann) Hopkins and Mick (Vicki) Hopkins; three grandchildren, Andrew (Alexandra) Hopkins, Kate (Antoine) Moinard, and Joy Whipple; and six great-grandchildren, Madeline, Paige, Jack, Naomi, Talia, and Josie.
A life celebration service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 24, at Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. Celebrant Brian Bennett will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends one hour before the service on Friday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to The American Red Cross. Condolences at www.connerandkoch.com.
