Dorothy Whitt's Obituary
Dorothy May Whitt, age 96, of Dayton, passed away Tuesday, April 4th, 2023 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born December 13th, 1926 to Flora (Mullens) and Green Lawson in War, West Virginia. She was the ninth child of 14 siblings, and the last to pass of her siblings.
She was raised in a Christian household and continued her faith journey as she raised her family in the Church of God. Family was very important to Dorothy. She was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and tried to participate in the special times of their lives. Dorothy loved to cook for her family on holidays and other special times. There were summer cookouts, and even a wedding hosted in the family backyard. Her oyster dressing was a favorite at Thanksgiving but she claimed she made the best Deviled eggs.
She is fondly remembered for teaching the grandkids to play Rummy, and was known to be very, very competitive. Dorothy loved to celebrate her birthdays, listening to the Gaither Brothers, and collecting Betty Boop items. More recently, when Dorothy wasn’t playing cards or bingo, Wii-bowling or sitting in the large comfy rocking chair and socializing, she would take time to enjoyed reading Christian romance and mystery novels. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin Whitt, and her two daughters, Rosemary and Brenda. She is survived by her children Joyce (Norman) Anderson, Ronald (Debra) Whitt, and Steven (Courtney) Whitt; her 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
