Douglas P. Badgley's Obituary
Douglas Patrick Badgley of Centerville, OH, passed away peacefully on December 14th surrounded by his family.
Devoted husband of 50 years to Marsha (Schafer) Badgley. Beloved father to Aaron Badgley, Beth Haugen, Katie Stanley and husband Ryan, Emily Tatelbaum and husband Everett, and Jonathan Badgley and fiancé Delane Meadows. Proud grandfather to McKenzie and Keaton Haugen, Zach and Jax Ware, Shea, Reid and Eylie Stanley, and Poppy and Millie Tatelbaum. Supportive big brother and uncle to the families of Maureen Feeney, the late Colleen Warman, Kevin Badgley, Lynn Hawke, and Molly Lacey.
Born the son of Arthur and Patricia Badgley, Doug relished being an older brother as he grew up in Cincinnati, Lexington and later Springfield, OH. In the halls of Catholic Central High School, Doug and Marsha became high school sweethearts, a love that would last for over 50 years of marriage, five loving children and nine grandchildren. Doug built and owned Lighthouse Carpet & Flooring where he served both his customers and those who worked for him.
His family and love for Jesus were his driving forces.
His life was characterized by the call to generous living in Matthew 6. If there was need, Doug was always there to quietly and humbly offer to help. He taught his family through his actions rather than words that there was always space for another plate at the table, or another hand in a circle of prayer, and that even if you didn’t have a lot, you had enough to give to others. Holidays and family events always included those in need of a family. Doug had a servant’s heart.
Doug’s passion was meeting and helping others, which he did through his business and through volunteerism. He respected every person he met, always looking them in the eye; no one better, no one worse. His values made him a strong fit for the board of the Life Enrichment Center where he served for many years. He always ended every interaction with “God loves you, kid”. He was a bright light to all the clients, the colleagues, and the charities he supported.
He had a fun-loving heart. His laughter and jokes were always there. He never let a good joke go, and always put himself at the center of the jokes, especially with his children who loved their Bubba.
Doug blessed the world with his love and leaves behind a beautiful legacy. His life and memories will remain a blessing to all.
The visitation will be on Thursday, December 17th 3-5pm with the service following at 5pm. Both the visitation and service will be held at Fearless Church at 2601 E Alex Bell Rd, Dayton, OH 45459.
