Elaine P. Pendergast's Obituary
PENDERGAST, Elaine P., age 96, of Bellbrook, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
Elaine was born and raised in Luke, Maryland. She graduated from Bruce High School and later earned a certificate in business. She worked as a secretary for a department head of the U.S. Agriculture Department. She was known for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the quiet pride she took in everything she did. When she had her daughter, she became a homemaker, and it was her pride and joy to take care of her family.
Elaine had a deep love for genealogy and even authored and published a book about her family history titled “Parker Hollow and Beyond.” She was an avid reader who enjoyed just about any book she could get her hands on. She also found joy in gardening, especially tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. Her hands were rarely still, as she enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was widely known as an excellent cook; one of her favorite dishes was mac’n cheese with boiled potatoes. Elaine relished collecting items from all aspects of her life, from spoons to porcelain dolls, information on genealogy, and even Christmas ornaments. She had a special place in her heart for those special items and many more. She loved going to community garage sales to see if she could find any treasures while there. Elaine always had room for some cherry tomatoes and jelly beans, as they were some of her favorite treats.
She was passionate, caring, and fiercely loyal, with a strong will and a perfectionist’s touch in all she did. Family was at the center of her life, and she was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in caring for her home and those she loved. She kept a warm, welcoming, and immaculate home and treasured holidays, especially Christmas. She found joy in everyday traditions, preparing meals, keeping her home just right, and spending meaningful time with her family. She especially cherished her husband, taking simple walks hand in hand with him and holding close the love they shared throughout their life together.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joseph “Joe” Pendergast, in 2008; her parents, Jacob and Edna Parker; her brother, Carl Parker and Raymond Parker; her sister, Mildred Ross; and her niece, Carol Jean Niland. Elaine is survived by her daughter, Patricia Pendergast; her brother, James (Judith) Parker; her sister, Mary Lou Metcalf; her nephew, Jason (Autumn) Parker; niece, Lori Parker; her great-nephew, Rick (Barbara) Niland; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Bellbrook Cemetery. Conner & Koch Funeral Home of Bellbrook is serving the family.
