Elbert "Ed" E. Simcox's Obituary
SIMCOX, Elbert “Ed” E., age 89, of Xenia and formerly of Riverside, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025.
Ed graduated from Crossville High School, class of ’54. He retired from Delco Moraine in 1992 after nearly 22 and a half years of service. Hard working his entire life, Ed owned and operated E&D Lawn Service for several years following his official retirement at Delco. For many years, he and his wife, Doris, enjoyed attending Beavercreek Church of the Nazarene.
Humble, simple, giving, caring, friendly, and extremely family-oriented, Ed had a servant’s heart who was dedicated to friends and family. He was extremely generous in his care toward others, especially his family, whom he bragged about every chance he got. He never missed an event that his kids or grandchildren were involved in. Always concerned about their well-being, he insisted that his family alert him when they traveled so he could follow along via his atlas. Loyal and generous, he graciously assisted many people when they needed him, keeping a bag of tools in his trunk just in case he could be of help. Even while living at Legacy Village, residents would often come to Ed when they needed their car jumped.
Ed was an avid gardener, both with flowers and vegetables. In addition, he loved feeding and watching the backyard birds. He was a big fan of the Cincinnati Reds and The Ohio State Buckeyes. While living at Legacy Village, he hosted tailgating get-togethers on Saturdays, complete with a big food spread and decorations, to be enjoyed by the Legacy Village Buckeye Nation. In addition, he was an avid reader, particularly of documentaries and Western literature.
Ed loved bluegrass music and often attended festivals and events whenever possible. For many years, he enjoyed listening to bluegrass musician, Paul “Moon” Mullins, on the radio, and later Moon’s son Joe Mullins and his group, the Radio Ramblers. Ed was one of Joe’s biggest supporters. He was thrilled that on the occasion of his 88th birthday, Joe showed up to his party, and later that day gave a shoutout to Ed and his friends on his radio show.
Big family dinners, especially those made from fresh garden vegetables, were a favorite tradition for Ed and the family. In addition, he will always be remembered for his love of Joe’s Pizza and visiting Bob Evans often enough that the staff knew his order when he arrived. However, his dedication, care, concern, and devotion to his family defined Ed’s life. Ed was a Christian and he loved the Lord, for which his family is forever grateful, and are confident he is now enjoying heaven with his bride, Doris!
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, in 2020; son, Stephen Simcox; his parents, Henry and Viller “Esoline” Simcox; four brothers, Barney, Douglas, Talmadge, and Rabon Simcox; and three sisters, Mattie Agnes Simcox, Eula Ceola Rich, and Elle Dee Crabtree. He is survived by two daughters, Pam (Keith) Bidwell and Donna (Ken) Cooley; eight grandchildren, Jenny (Joey) Turner, Lauren (Niall) McMahon, Shannon (Andrew) Franson, Andrew Simcox, Cassie (Greg) Ordmandy, Phillip (Lindsey) Cooley, Rebecca Cooley, and Amy (Chance) Bridges; 12 great-grandchildren, Jo Jo, Maddie, Cora, Rose, Jonas, Forrest, Logan, Jaden, Colton, Katelynn, Cheyenne, and Koraline; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 - 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 10, at Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. A celebration of life service will immediately follow the visitation at 10:30 AM on Saturday at the funeral home with Joseph Turner officiating. Burial will immediately follow the celebration of life service at the Bellbrook Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to Legacy Village Foundation. Condolences at www.connerandkoch.com.
