Courts, Eugene “Gene”
Gene was born July 21, 1935 in Brown County, Ohio. After graduating from high school, he earned a Bachelors Degree in Business from the University of Cincinnati. Gene worked as a Stockbroker and financial planner for many years before retiring from Hilliard Lyons Brokerage Firm in 2000. He enjoyed gardening, planting trees and landscaping. Gene's inquisitive nature made him knowledgeable about many things, but he especially enjoyed history and geneology. He even wrote a couple of books about his life and family's geneology. Gene was an avid sports fan, especially UC Basketball, Lebron James (NBA), and being a Cincinnati boy, Cincinnati Reds Baseball. He was passionate about barbershop harmony. Gene was a member of New Harmony Four, 1969 Johnny Appleseed District Champions, sang with Southern Gateway, and was involved in various activities and responsibilities affiliated with the Barbershop Harmony Society. Gene passed away Friday June 12, 2015 at University of Cincinnati Hospital. He was 79. Gene was most passionate about his beloved family which include his wife of 33 years, Joyce (Vaughn) Courts of Venice, Florida (formerly of Cincinnati); three sons Todd Davidson Courts and his wife RoseMary of Cincinnati, Bari Lee Courts and his wife Carolyn of Cincinnati, and Darren Thomas Courts of Greer, South Carolina; two daughters Lori Young Mullarkey and her husband James of Louisville, Kentucky, and Lesley Carroll Folan and her husband Matthew of Loveland, twelve grandchildren Matt Courts, Cara Courts, Jordan Courts, Hunter Folan, Maxwell Folan, Davis Courts, Carter Courts, Oliver Folan, James Mullarkey, William Mullarkey, Natasha Courts, and Alexander Courts; sister Rita Potrafki and her husband David of Cincinnati. Life Celebration Services begin with a visitation from 9:00-10:00 am Friday June 19th at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 100 Miami Ave., Terrace Park, Oh. A life celebration funeral will follow at 10:00 am, continued with a friends and family reception, all at the church. The burial in Vine St. Hill Cemetery will follow the reception.
