Dr. Gary Charles Barlow, age 88, of Fairborn, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek, Ohio. Gary was born on September 15, 1935, in Toledo, Ohio, and raised in Colton, a small community in Read Obituary
I am very saddened to hear of Dr. Barlow's passing. I was a graduate assistant in the Art Therapy program at Wright State from 1989 to 1990. Dr. Barlow had such passion for art therapy, the university, and the students he taught. Thanks to Dr. Barlow I have very fond memories of my years at Wright State and will always be grateful for his wisdom, creativity, and inspiration.
Gary had so much energy and enthusiasm for the WSU Friends of the Libraries and was instrumental in starting its workshops and book club. Always friendly, quick-witted and funny; dedicated to his family, friends, hobbies, travels and profession. A true joy to work with and know. He presented me with the most beautiful vase when I changed jobs. I had the privilege of working with him for many years through the Friends and am so sorry he's gone. The world seems a duller place without him. He made the world a better place and will never be forgotten.
I had the honor of working with Gary and Lew on the Friends of the Libraries Board at Wright State. What an amazing man. He used to joke about us not being allowed to sit next to each other at meetings because we talked to each other too much. I still have a painting he did for me when I left Wright State and I will treasure it always. To say that he will be missed is an understatement. Sending love and warm thoughts to his family. I know he loved you very much.
I did not have the opportunity to meet him, but I know he was a kind and amazing person from stories shared with me by Katherine. So sorry for your loss.
What a treasure of knowledge and general wisdom Gary possessed. As his college roommate we spent many times learning and enjoying experiences working together on projects ranging from Miami's Student Theater and art projects that Gary was involved with including decorating professors' homes on campus. We also spent many visits in each other's homes getting to know the life style of his small town, his parents' store and his dad's postmaster's work at Colton. My boyhood farm home near New Madison was the other area we visited many times. All these experiences aided in developing a lifelong friendship that will be treasured all my life. Gary was a wonderful friend - how fortunate I was to have met him when we were both Freshmen at Miami University!
