Gina R. Cobb's Obituary
COBB, Gina R., age 60, of Sugarcreek Township, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
Gina is best remembered as a friend to everyone she met. With her beautiful smile and unarming friendly personality, it could be said that Gina never knew a stranger.
Born to Barbara (Sarratt) and Warren Wharton, Gina grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan. Gina’s family roots can be traced to rural Oklahoma and West Virginia. Growing up with the influence of family and friends from these three parts of the country influenced Gina with kindness, understanding, strong will, respect, independence, hard-work, and the love of God.
Gina earned an Associate’s degree with honors in Nursing from Oklahoma City Community College. Immediately upon graduation, she passed the Registered Nurse State Board exam and began her 35-year career as an RN.
Her career as an RN was marked by service to others in most need. She spent many years working for Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, First Dayton Cancer Care, Five Rivers Health Center, and other hospital systems. Gina focused her efforts on serving the underinsured and underserved, providing access to quality health care, and advocating for individuals facing financial hardship.
The pride of Gina’s life was her family, including two children, two grandchildren, as well as the large family she married into. She planned every year around what the kids had on the agenda. Gina was always organizing the upcoming family trip. She really loved family trips to Disney World and vacations to Gatlinburg and Northern Michigan. Gina also enjoyed traveling to England and Ireland.
Gina’s home was very important to her. She always had a well-kept home, comfortable enough for family and friends to feel welcome. She was one to host a family gathering, preparing favorite dishes of more than enough. Christmas was a grand affair in Gina’s home, complete with sugar cookies baked from her Aunt Anna’s recipe.
Growing up in Michigan, she greatly enjoyed downhill skiing and water skiing during the warmer months. She also enjoyed playing tennis with her father, Warren. Gina’s favorite sport was golf, and she enjoyed playing many rounds with her husband, Brian. She also enjoyed golf with several friends in women’s leagues. Some of her favorite activities included spending time immersed in a good book, walking in the woods, and going on outings to pick blueberries.
Gina collected pottery, Longaberger baskets, and Pampered Chef items. She enjoyed the parties that were associated with those collectibles. Among many things, she will be remembered for her bright and warm smile. Always family-oriented, her commitment and love of being a mother to her children, a grandmother to her grandchildren, and a never-ending supporter of her husband will always be remembered as her strongest attribute. Her husband, forever thankful to God for that bonfire where they first met, said he was blessed to be married to Gina, his soulmate and the love of his life.
Gina was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Wharton, and her mother-in-law, Janet Cobb. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Brian; daughter, Melissa (John) Andras; son, Jonathan “Lee” Cobb; two grandchildren, Emma and Charlotte; father, Warren Wharton; one brother, Mark Wharton; two sisters, Teri Lewis-Wharton and Jennifer (Neal) Hylton; and father-in-law, Thomas Cobb.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to Noon on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. A life celebration service will immediately follow the visitation at Noon on Saturday at the funeral home. Celebrant Brian Bennett will be officiating the service. In addition to the services in Ohio, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 11, at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Battle Creek, Michigan. Conner & Koch Funeral Home will be serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to the BCACS Foundation, Attn: Tom & Janet Cobb Tuition Scholarship Fund, 63 N. 24 St., Battle Creek, MI 49015. Condolences at www.connerandkoch.com.
