I had the pleasure of playing in the Greene county adult band with Max for several years. Always a gentleman and helpful to me with my music.
My dear friend Max was my advocate and champion in the ski patrol. Wanting to test our “Ohio” avalanche and mountaineering training, I arranged a ski mountaineering trip to the Tetons. Our guide, who was not feeling well, led us to the base camp, ran us through avalanche beacon drills and fixed us a nice dinner. He left us in the morning with a map of suggested ski routes. Our ski patrol mountaineering skills did us well. We even successfully built and slept in a snow cave. The only disappointments were that we missed out on some telemark lessons and had to make meals from leftover supplies from previous groups. Day 5 the guide returned while we were out skiing and left us a note and a car at the trailhead. It was an awesome experience that definitely tested our skills and resourcefulness. We were blessed with beautiful weather and woke up to fresh powder every morning.
I remember XC Skiing with Max and Marie at Sun Valley, ID.
Max and Marie and Bob and I XC skied at Vista Verde, CO.
Max was a very active member of the Miami Valley Cross Country Ski Club based there in Dayton, Ohio. He also served as our Ski Patrol member. Several years Max and Marie joined the club at Lone Mountain Ranch at MT and also several years at Vista Verde near Steam Boat Springs, CO.
Max and Marie joined in several gatherings through out the years when Bob and Phyllis Moore visited the area.
The most recent reunion and visit for Max and Marie was nearly a year and half ago at the MCL Cafeteria there in Centerville.
Furthermore, I worked with Max at the Flight Dynamics Laboratory at Wright Patterson and I got him to join our XC Ski Club.
We send our deepest condolences to Marie and the family.
With Love, Bob and Phyllis Moore (reside now in ABQ, NM)
Max and I joined the University of Dayton New Horizons Music Program at about the same time and I was privileged to sit next to him in the band and play with him in the clarinet choir, the Licorice Stix. When he and Marie joined the UDNHMP Lunch Bunch I was surprised to learn of our mutual love of Lake Erie and Lakeside, Ohio. My sincere sympathy to Marie and all of the family in the loss of this talented, interesting, and genuinely nice man.
