Hazel Boyd's Obituary
BOYD, Hazel, age 102, of Dayton, and formerly of Wantagh, Long Island, New York, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the Wellington of Dayton.
She was born in Malden, Massachusetts August 29th of 1922 and completed her K-12 education graduating from Lynn English High School in 1940. A proud Christian Scientist, Hazel dedicated her early career to the Christian Science Mother Church in Boston before honorably enlisting in the United States Navy in 1941. She proudly served in the WAVES during World War II. Following her military service, Hazel completed training at the Barbizon School of Modeling in New York City, modeling part time for many years for clothing designers as well as Macy’s. Hazel also worked as an executive assistant before finding her niche as the head of accounts payable for Levittown School District in Long Island, where she retired after 25 years of service.
Warm, loving, and kind to all, Hazel was full of life. She was known for her beautiful smile and the gift for making others laugh. Hazel enjoyed traveling across the country and throughout the Caribbean, with a special fondness for Hawaii. At home, she tended to her flower beds and would pick fresh flowers each week. She loved to decorate and took pride in her beautiful condominium in Tifton Greens in Centerville, where she resided for 25 years. Hazel also prioritized her own appearance, routinely getting her nails manicured and visiting the hairdresser weekly.
Hazel was very social and loved people, finding great joy while spending time with family and friends. Moving to Dayton in 1989 afforded her the opportunity to live near her daughter and family and be a wonderful grandmother to her two grandchildren. She looked forward to yearly family vacations as well as weekly visits with her daughter at Bob Evans. Hazel was an active participant in a golf league with her close-knit group of friends. Together they also took part in a wine club and fun gatherings for Bunco. A lifelong cat lover, one of Hazel’s closest companions was her 17-year-old feline friend, Skippy, who she loved dearly.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, James Boyd; and her parents, Irving and Edna Wescott. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Boyd (Steve Snyder); and two grandchildren, Justin Snyder and Kristin Snyder (Ben Walker).
Services will be held at a later date along with a full military burial at Dayton National Cemetery. Conner and Koch Funeral Home is serving the family. Condolences at www.connerandkoch.com.
