James "Jim" B. Oakley's Obituary
OAKLEY, James “Jim” B. Jr., age 49, of Kettering, passed away Monday, November 17, 2025.
Jim was born to James B. Oakley Sr. and Robin S. Oakley (Bohrer) and grew up in Kettering. He graduated from Fairmont High School, and early in life he developed a love for the outdoors, working hard from a young age and embracing a simple, hands-on way of living.
In more recent years, Jim devoted his working career to Snyder Brick & Block, where he worked for more than 7 years, eventually serving as Yard Manager. He was known for being hard-working and strong.
During his leisure time, Jim especially enjoyed grilling, mushroom hunting in the springtime, landscaping, hunting with his dad, fishing excursions, driving and admiring fast cars—particularly his two Ford Mustangs and his show-edition Corvette, and unwinding with a cold beer after work. He found joy in the quiet, simple moments outdoors and the satisfaction of a job well done.
Jim created lasting memories through hunting trips with his dad and the traditions they built over the years. One of his favorite memories was traveling to Canada to fish with his dad when he was young. He was particularly proud of the big deer he harvested over the years, especially those early, cold mornings that became stories told and retold. One of his favorite traditions was going out with his dad on opening day of pheasant hunting season to Caesar Creek State Park.
Jim was the type of guy who had an appreciation for guns, knives, and camo gear. However, he also had a bougie side, which was displayed was his love of visiting Dorothy Lane Market regularly for quality steak and other fine meal options. Jim enjoyed old TV shows like Svengoolie show on Saturday nights and Dr. Creep produced and aired in the Dayton area. He also loved animals—especially Rottweiler dogs, including those he named Lady, Lars, and Byson. Recently, he also cared for a cat named Clint, the only cat he ever owned, and a pitbull he rescued, aptly name Shadow.
In later years, despite the challenges that life brought, Jim continued living in his own quiet, steady way. Always a bachelor, he will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of pets, and especially his love for the outdoors while enjoying his greatest passion in life, hunting and fishing.
Jim is survived by his parents, James Oakley Sr. and Robin Oakley (Bohrer); his grandmother, Barbara Bohrer; his sister, Barbara Oakley; his nephew, Nathan Treece; and many cousins, uncles, aunts, and extended family, both living and deceased. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joseph Bohrer.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 PM on Sunday, December 7 at Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. A celebration of life service will immediately follow the visitation at 3 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Condolences at https://www.connerandkoch.com.
