Sweet Memories of Aunt Jo
When I think of Aunt Jo, I think of her pretty smile and twinkling eyes. She was always smiling or laughing. She was very affectionate and never failed to bestow her hugs and kisses on us. She didn’t know a stranger and was every engaging with anyone she met.
I loved hearing her and my mom talk about the good old days when they were partners in crime. They were the only two women in the family who smoked cigarettes and would sneak out of sight at family functions to puff away! And they had no concept of time….whenever they were together they were usually late coming home. I can’t remember exactly why, but, my guess is they probably got lost by way of one of Aunt Jo’s famous short cuts. They knew they were in trouble with dad and Uncle Bill and they managed to conger up some story to pacify them.
We had so much fun visiting each other’s family. Aunt Jo loved to play cards or board games and she usually included us kids…I remember laughing hysterically at times. She loved to tell jokes and stories and we loved hearing them. When it was time to go home she would always say “just one more cup of coffee, honey” to Uncle Bill…one cup turned to several cups…there goes the “no” concept of time again!
I’ll never forget the time she & Uncle Bill bought my dad a set of golf clubs. She had created a sand trap inside a Twinkies box to throw him off. Dad opened his present and got all excited about getting a whole box of Twinkies…bless his heart, he was always appreciative no matter what…anyway, then he opened the box and was confused by the sand, tee & golf ball. He was overwhelmed when they brought in the clubs! It was one of the best moments ever! He and Aunt Jo bantered back and forth like true blood related siblings. They adored each other!
My mind is flooded with so many memories of her, most of which need to be told in person to get the true effect. I will cherish them.
She was very dear to me and when she referred to me as her God child; it made me feel very special. The Lord has now embraced her and she is at peace.
Love, Bev

We just wanted to let you know that your family is in our thoughts & prayers at this time. As the only girl Jo babysat, surrounded by all the boys from both families, it was nice to be spoiled. You knew everyone in the neighborhood watched out for each other. Kind of miss those days. Take care
