Jonathon "Grü" H. Dias' Obituary
Major Jonathon H. Dias, United States Air Force, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 13, 2025. He was a devoted husband, loving father, beloved son, loyal friend, and dedicated officer whose presence brightened every room and strengthened every team he was part of.
Jonathon is survived by his beloved wife, Yekaterina Dias, and their four children—Anastasia, Abigail, Grace, and Jacob—who were the joy and center of his life. He is also survived by his parents, Randall and Sharon Dias, and his six siblings—Blake Dias, Seth Dias (Abby), Monica Farmer (Jordan), Luke Dias (Anabelle), Joseph Dias, and Esther Dias—all of whom admired his wisdom, humor, and steadfast heart.
Jonathon approached life with an adventurous spirit, always ready for family trips, new challenges, and spontaneous outings. Whether exploring the outdoors or spending time together at home, he made every moment meaningful. His curiosity and creativity shone through in his many talents—he could repair any car, boat, or appliance —and his craftsmanship was evident in the beautiful woodworking projects he built, including the family’s dining table and custom artwork that filled their home with warmth and love. When he wasn’t working with his hands, Jonathon could often be found training for his next running challenge or playing on the lake. Most recently, he completed a 12-hour endurance race, covering 63 miles and placing first in his age group—an achievement that reflected his quiet determination and discipline.
In his earlier years, Jonathon enjoyed keeping his parents on their toes, finding many adventures with his siblings on Rainbow Lane, from climbing the tallest trees to driving the go-kart and playing endless football games. He loved his childhood and often spoke about it. Jonathon had a free spirit and sought out adventure. He loved weekend hikes and especially camping trips with his family. Jonathon’s love for woodworking and working with his hands began in his early years, when he built a treehouse for his younger brother, Luke, for his birthday, complete with a zipline. He later enjoyed strolling to his neighbor's garage to see how he could learn to work on car engines and later fix older cars on his own. His determination and grit to do hard things and find new ways to bring joy into life were deeply admirable and inspiring.
A lifelong learner and brilliant thinker, Major Jonathon Dias of the United States Air Force dedicated his life to service, excellence, and continuous growth. After earning his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cedarville University, he commissioned in 2012 from ROTC Detachment 643 in Dayton, Ohio. His distinguished career reflected both his intellect and character, marked by innovation, leadership, and a deep sense of duty, most recently recognized with the 2024 Field Grade Officer of the Year Award. Jonathon served at Randolph, Arnold, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Bases, where he led major test and development programs that strengthened the Air Force’s mission and capabilities. His commitment to mentorship guided his work at the Acquisition Instructor Course, shaping the future leaders of acquisition. As Chief of Program Integration, he oversaw the Next Generation Air Dominance portfolio and advanced critical F-15 capabilities before concluding his career with the Missile Defense Agency in Huntsville, Alabama, developing cutting-edge systems to protect the nation he proudly served.
Beyond his many professional accomplishments, Jonathon will be remembered most for his integrity, humility, and compassion. He was a leader who inspired confidence, a colleague who offered steady support, and a friend who listened with genuine care.
Jonathon’s loyalty, kindness, and gift for connection drew people to him wherever he went. He loved to be challenged physically, mentally, and spiritually. Jonathon will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. His legacy of love, faith, and perseverance will continue to live on through his children and the countless lives he touched.
The family will receive friends from noon until 2 pm on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Crossview Christian Church in Waynesville. A celebration of life service will immediately follow the visitation at 2 pm on Saturday at the church. Thomas Hutchison will be officiating the service. Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook is serving the family.
