Joyce Leach's Obituary
Joyce Mary (Schmunk) Leach, born on November 15, 1935 in Defiance, Ohio to the late John D. Schmunk and Florence J. (Bailey) Schmunk, has gone home to be with Jesus. preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Donald “Daryl” Leach, and sisters-in-law Barbara Mustard and Helen Schmunk. Joyce is survived by her brother Roy Schmunk (Phyllis), daughters Lori Meeker (Nathan) of Columbus, Ohio and Shari Wagner (Timothy) of Cincinnati, Ohio, grandchildren Ryan Meeker (Brooke), Rachel Hartley (Taylor), James Wagner, and Hannah Wagner, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family, and she loved her church, which for many years was Kettering First Church of God in Kettering, Ohio. Although trained as an elementary school teacher, she dedicated herself to caring for her family and serving in her church in a variety of capacities. Over the years, her church service included many positions: treasurer, youth group sponsor, Sunday School teacher, and Sunday School superintendent. She enjoyed helping others, volunteered in the church food pantry, supported children through World Vision, and visited shut-ins.
Joyce enjoyed traveling with Daryl, and was able to visit many parts of our country as well as international destinations. Her hobbies included reading, word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, games shows, eating out, and board games with family. She enjoyed time spent through the years with her lifelong friend, Joanne Wrasse. Although Alzheimer’s deprived her of these memories in later years, we still hold these memories fondly, and we rejoice that she is now made complete in the presence of her Savior.
