Keith "Jay" J. Elting Jr.'s Obituary
ELTING, Keith “Jay” J. Jr., age 80, of Bellbrook, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
Jay was raised in Columbus, where he graduated from Grandview Heights High School, class of ‘63. He later attended Ohio State University, where he participated in ROTC. Jay devoted more than 30 years of service as a commercial insurance agent and house inspector before retiring. He was a faithful member of Centerville Christian Fellowship.
Motorcycles were one of Jay’s greatest passions. He enjoyed riding Suzuki, Honda, and MZ motorcycles, as well as dirt bikes. It was a tradition to attend the Devil’s Staircase and the Dayton Hill Climb. He was a member of the Dayton Motorcycle Club. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and enjoyed cheering them on with his daughter Rebecca. Reading was another passion of his, and he had a collection of science fiction and Tom Clancy novels, National Geographic magazines, and books of all kinds. An animal lover throughout his life, Jay had a fondness for fishing and all kinds of “critters,” including snakes, turtles, ferrets, hamsters, cats, guinea pigs, rats, dogs, and spiders. He also enjoyed watching airplanes perform aerial maneuvers and spending time outdoors. Above all else, Jay treasured his family. He was most proud of his children and the education they achieved. He will be remembered as a talkative, loving, determined man with remarkable perseverance who enjoyed family holidays and sharing stories with those he loved.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Keith J. Elting Sr. and Mildred Elting; and his brother, Larry Elting. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Jean; his two sons, Keith (Karla) J. Elting III and Jason Paul Elting; his two daughters, Rebecca Jean Elting (Chris Ivan) and Karen Adele Elting; his granddaughter, Kyrstyn Elting; his brother, David Carroll Elting; and several nieces and nephews.
