Ken Shanley's Obituary
Kenneth "Ken" Karol Shanley, age 83, passed away on Friday, June 9th, 2023. He was born on October 27th, 1939 to Kenneth Henry and Jay Josephine (Karolscheski) Shanley in Yonkers, New York. Ken served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps before getting married to Perryann "Penny" (Turke) Shanley on August 16, 1964. He worked for several years in Advertising before he began teaching. He completed his Doctorate degree and began working as a Business and Marketing professor for Sinclair Community College.
Ken was a great lover of horses and living in the country. He enjoyed caring for his horses and even did some barrel racing in his younger years. Ken's lifelong love was restoring classic cars, but only if they were made by Ford or Mercury. He was an expert on T-Birds and was truly a gifted mechanic.
Together, Ken and Penny traveled far and wide, enjoying favorites like Ireland and Italy, and most recently going to Australia and New Zealand. Ken was an avid reader, always picking up mystery novels! He was a puzzle builder, a guitar player, and an extremely witty and very likable man. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth Henry and Jay Josephine Shanley and sister Martha "Marty" Cahill Shanley. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 58 years Penny Shanley, daughters Jilleen Jay Shanley Myers (Arnold) and Lana Janelle Stanley Kastner (David), grandchildren Emily Paige Myers, Hannah Jane Holt (Brian), Madison Karol Myers, Leah Roslyn Kastner, Jared Samuel Kastner (Kaitlyn), and Joshua Perry Kastner, sister Sherryann Barbato, and the first great-grandchild expected in September.
