Lorna Sue Charlesworth's Obituary
CHARLESWORTH, Lorna Sue, age 77, of Bellbrook, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025.
Lorna was a strong-willed person from the very start. She was born with significant medical complications and underwent several surgeries as a young child -even breaking new medical ground as a first to have her stomach relocated due to the absence of her esophagus. Lorna grew up in Lytle and graduated from Waynesville High School, class of ’66. She always stayed connected with her friends from high school throughout her life; distance and time never affected their relationship. She worked as a TV traffic coordinator, scheduling and coordinating commercials at local TV stations for almost 35 years. She worked originally for WKEF-TV Channel 22, stepped away for several years to be a stay-at-home mom, then returned to the department at WKEF-TV Channel 22/WRGT-TV Channel 45, and ended her career working at Dayton’s WB/Dayton’s CW Channel 26.
One of her favorite hobbies was doing arts and crafts. She had a large collection of sewing materials, beads, and crocheting. She was well known for her fleece blankets with crocheted edges – they were a favorite of hers to make. Caring and loving, she would do anything for anyone. She was a fighter and never let her health get in her way or bring her mood down. Her passion was her family. She was proudly married to her husband just short of 50 years. She fought hard to become a mother and deeply loved and cherished her daughter. She was more than just a mom to her daughter; they were best friends. Her husband, John, and Lorna were the biggest cheerleader for their daughter, Christine. They were always there rooting her on and excited to see where the next journey of her life took her, very proud of all the accomplishments along the way. Lorna always was helping out the family and she enjoyed babysitting her nephews and later her great-nieces, whom she treated like her own grandchildren. Lorna looked forward to the family meals and gatherings for the holidays, and she was well known for the coleslaw she would always make. Lorna tried to spend every weekend doing something together with her daughter and often the great-nieces too. When the weather was warmer, she enjoyed working in her yard and flowerbeds. She looked forward to Spring and being able to get back out into the yard work. When the weather was cold, Lorna was notorious for always wearing a hat and having a collection of different styles. Among many things, she will be remembered for the love and pride she had in her daughter and her family.
Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Charlesworth, in 2020 and her parents, Loren and Eva Routzahn. She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Christine Charlesworth; sister, Linda (Bill) Shanks; two nephews, Kevin and Dale Shanks; and two great-nieces who were more like grandchildren to Lorna, Maryann and Belle Shanks.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm on Wednesday, March 5, at Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. Burial will be at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to the Clinton County Humane Society. Condolences to the family may be made at www.connerandkoch.com.
