Marie E. Lyons' Obituary
LYONS, Marie E., age 74, of Kettering, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
A lifelong Dayton area resident, Marie graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in 1968 and resided in her Kettering home for over 50 years. Marie earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern New Mexico State University. She served as a special education teacher for kindergarten through eighth grade for Dayton Public Schools in their auxiliary program at St. Anthony and St. Rita Schools before ultimately leaving the profession after over 20 years.
Supportive, caring, kind, humble, content, and giving, Marie was family-oriented and was always supportive of her kids and grandchildren. She loved spending time outdoors, especially tending to her flower beds and yard and enjoyed walks in the local parks. She also took great pride in the history of the Dayton area and often visited many local museums and historical sites including Carillon Historical Park. During her later years, she spent her life attending the activities and sporting events of her grandchildren. In the past few years, she traveled to South Carolina to spend time with her sister, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Among many things, Marie will be remembered for the pride she had in her family, especially their successes in life. In addition, while never seeking attention or accolades, Marie often donated to homeless shelters and gave to organizations who assisted those in need.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Taylor; her mother, Juanita Deuser; and one sister, Lori Boggs. She is survived by her two children, Jennifer (Nick) Sullivan and Matthew Lyons; two grandchildren, Carter and Ian; one brother, David Michael Taylor; and two sisters, Patsy (Jim) Huelsman and Brenda (Bill) Lewis and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family 10 AM to 11 AM Saturday, August 24 at Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. A celebration of life service will immediately follow the visitation at 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Celebrant Brian Bennett will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Bellbrook Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, The Dayton History Fund or Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. Condolences at www.connerandkoch.com.
