Mary A. Gregg's Obituary
GREGG, Mary A., age 66, of Spring Valley Township, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024, at her residence.
Mary retired from Airway Animal Clinic in 2020 after 32 years of faithfully serving pets and their owners in Dayton.
Quiet, caring, and loving, Mary had a nurturing spirit to her family and to animals. She loved animals and took in and raised several dogs over the years. One of her favorites, Pippa, lives on today. She also raised chickens. When her daughter was younger, they once raised a goose from an egg. In addition, Mary nursed a doe back to health that was abandoned in her yard. She loved the outdoors and greatly enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. With an Italian heritage, she was an excellent cook. Some of her favorite delectables included lasagna, homemade chili, butter baked beans in a crock, bacon, and hot dogs. Whenever she cooked, she was known to cook for at least a party of eight, even though it was often just the three of them eating.
Mary had a tradition of visiting the Ohio Renaissance Festival with her family each year. In addition, they often took trip out to view the Christmas lights together, especially to Clifton Mills. When her daughter was younger, they made several trips to Florida to visit family, which often led to a detour to Disney World. However, those trips to Disney often humorously resulted in frustration due to excessive crowds and heat. Among many things, Mary will be remembered for collecting crystals and minerals and for her love of playing games on her tablet. The immense compassion and care she gave to all those animals and their families via the veterinary clinic will be what she will be remembered most.
She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Scaletta; her mother, Carol (Ong) Scaletta; and her brother, Chuck Scaletta. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Todd; her daughter, Emily; two sisters, Lauren (Matt) Lewis and Hillary Scaletta; and step-mom, Marsha Scaletta.
A celebration of life gathering will be held 2-4 PM Saturday, May 11 at Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. A celebration of life service will immediately follow the gathering at 4 PM on Saturday at the funeral home with celebrant Brian Bennett officiating the services. In lieu of flowers and in Mary’s memory, contributions may be made to SICSA. Condolences at www.connerandkoch.com.
