Mary Ellen Spangler's Obituary
A smart, honest, and hard-working woman, Mary Ellen Spangler, age 78, of Bellbrook, passed away Tuesday, November 16th, 2021.
She was born October 5th, 1943 to Hazel Bilyeu (Adamson) and Cless Bilyeu. She was employed as a Banker for Fifth Third Bank, where she excelled at providing advice and help to her customers.
Mary Ellen loved animals, especially her dogs, of which she had many! Most recently, she spoiled Sadie, Max, Cowboy, and Jake. She was an avid gardener, growing all varieties of flowers, as well as raspberry bushes. She hosted memorable Christmas Eve party's every year, where she made her famous stuffed mushrooms and gifted everyone with homemade caramels and raspberry jelly. She enjoyed watching the Sound of Music and NCIS, and the music of Elvis Presley and Barry Manilow. She was a member of a Pinochle card club for many years, was able to take a special trip to Spain that she remembered fondly, and enjoyed sewing and making clothes and blankets for her family. She was an avid reader, but especially enjoyed crime novels and romantic fiction. Her blunt and straightforward words of wisdom will always be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hazel Bilyeu (Adamson) and Cless Bilyeu, husband Harold R. Spangler, and brother Ronald L. Bilyeu. Mary Ellen is survived by son Brian Smith, step-daughter Rae Ann Payne (Steve), 14 grandchildren including Jade Smith, Brian Smith Jr., Dennis Mercer, and Steven Mercer (Brittany), and 17 great-grandchildren.
