Millie Slusher Caldwell Isaacs' Obituary
A feisty fighter, Mildred "Millie" Slusher Caldwell Isaacs, age 64, of Xenia, passed away on Sunday, May 23rd, 2021.
Millie, who was also called "Mo," was born on July 28th, 1956 to Nola and Roy Slusher. She grew up in Kentucky in a family with a lot of kids, but not a lot of money. As a result, she had to be pulled out of school at a young age to help with all the chores. During those years, she became a fantastic cook with many delicious recipes and family favorites; her specialty was cabbage rolls. Those years out of school improved her cooking, but set her back in education. Millie was a fighter though, and she never let it stop her. After working hard to get her GED, she studied at Clark State and earned her Associates Degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She spent her career taking care of the elderly, which she absolutely loved.
Mo also met her husband, Barry, while she was working as a nursing assistant. Barry felt that he had hit the jackpot because Millie loved to fish. They went on a lot of fishing dates and Millie was always dolled up, at least in the beginning of their relationship. She was also a big sports fan, dedicated to the Cincinnati Bengals and Reds, and Kentucky Wildcats. Mo also loved animals, she adored her dogs, and enjoyed following the animals at the Topeka Zoo, and especially the giraffes. Most importantly, Millie was a devout Christian. Her faith grew stronger and stronger throughout her life and she was never afraid to share her convictions and beliefs.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Angela "Angel" Gray, sister Rebecca Bieker, and grandmother-in-love, Hazel Isaacs.
Mildred is survived by her husband Barry Isaacs, son Vernon (Margie) Gray, grandchildren Austin and Brittney Gray, siblings Cephus (Marilyn) Slusher, Martha "Marty" James, Ada Wehrkamp, Cammie "Bo" (Vickie) Caldwell, Kermit (Carol) Slusher, and Regina Hall as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her friends, Catherine Pierce, Betty Webb, Bonnie Zimlich, Roxanna Quinn, Kristen Williams, Christina Caravoulias and Gwen Tomas.
