Phillip M. Herres' Obituary
HERRES, Phillip M., age 86, of Bellbrook, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
Phillip was a longtime businessman and familiar face throughout the Bellbrook area, owning and operating Dollar Towne alongside his beloved wife for more than 50 years before officially retiring in 2019. Through the years, the business became well known for buying and selling coins, collectibles, autographs, and memorabilia of all kinds, interests that were not only his livelihood but also lifelong passions. Phillip proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was especially proud of the life he built through determination, hard work, and perseverance after overcoming hardships early in life. He was also very community-minded and quietly supported many local causes and organizations throughout the years.
Phillip especially enjoyed being outdoors and took tremendous pride in his beautiful 58-acre property, where he spent countless hours working around the land, cutting wood, enjoying bonfires, and taking golf cart rides with his dogs, grandchildren, and family. Some of his favorite moments were the simple ones - feeding the fish, watching the geese and ducks, and riding around the property with his loved ones close by. He was an avid dog lover and, at one time, cared for as many as eight dogs.
Phillip enjoyed watching classic movies nightly, especially later in life, with Casablanca remaining one of his all-time favorites. He also loved traveling, particularly his many trips to Hawaii, especially Oahu, where he vacationed between 15 to 20 times over the years. He treasured taking his children and family on trips to Disney and the Smoky Mountains, creating memories they would cherish forever. Phillip was known for his generosity, caring spirit, sense of humor, and ability to make others laugh. He loved telling jokes, spending time with family, and simply being together with the people he loved most.
Phillip was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon, in 2020; his son, Daniel Lee Herres; his brother, Joseph Mercer; and his sister, Esther Laird. He is survived by his children, Phillip (Kris) Herres Jr., Donald (Lisa) Herres, Steven (Julie) Herres, and Gigi (John) Withrow; grandchildren, Ciera (Brian) Madden, Danny (Madison) Herres, Sean Withrow, Chelsea (Colin) Baker, Jamie (Evan) Haarmeyer, Sydney Withrow (fiancé Richie Quartaro), Madison (Joseph) Stone, Payton Herres, Jordan Herres, and Brooke Herres; eight great-grandchildren, Danny, Liam, Cole, Grayson, Oliver, Danny, Allie, and Louie; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Bellbrook Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at https://www.connerandkoch.com
