Richard James ""Dick"" Harrington's Obituary
Richard James “Dick” HARRINGTON
A man characterized by goodness and dry wit, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6th, 2014. Dick was born June 20th, 1928 in Erie, Pennsylvania, and most recently lived in Centerville. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy during WWII and enjoyed old classic, John Wayne war and western movies and 40’s Big Band music. Following his discharge in 1953, Dick led an active life in Erie; singing in the Men’s Choir, camping and being a member of the Lions Club. Last year, on November 10th, he was deeply honored to travel with his daughter, Noreen, to Washington, D.C. with Honor Flight (Dayton) where they visited several memorials including the WWII Memorial. Dick enjoyed snacking on donuts, York Peppermint Patties, and fudge, visiting his hometown and Niagara Falls, and caring for his dogs and companions Penny, Pierre, Daisy, Harry and Suki. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia in 2010, and his daughter, Colleen Sue, in 1952. Left to celebrate his life are 2 sons Gary Harrington of Houston, Texas, and Allen Harrington (Sandy) of Kettering, 2 daughters Nancy Martin (Steve) of Columbus, and Noreen Whitmill (Wayne) of Bellbrook, brother David Harrington (Pat) of Erie, Pennsylvania, and his pride and joy, 6 grandchildren Amanda Martin (Dan), Caitlyn Reiff (Andy) (and soon to be great granddaughter), Elizabeth Lewis (Ken), Kasey Harrington, Sydney and Nicholas Whitmill. Friends and family will gather from 11 am-12 noon Friday October 19th at CONNER & KOCH Life Celebration Home, 92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook (937-848-6651) where you are encouraged to wear red, white and blue and play a game of Scrabble. A life celebration will follow at 12:00 noon.
