Richard Allen Rhoads' Obituary
Rhoads, Richard Allen, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the age of 101. Richard was born to Milton and Jesse (Miller) Rhoads on July 27, 1915 in Highland County, OH. He married his beloved wife of 76 years, Verna Mae (Hunter), on August 24, 1940, and together they raised four boys in a house that he taught himself how to build. Richard worked as a systems analyst for Chrysler for 33 years, but enjoyed working in his garden the most, growing vegetables and fruit trees. He also loved to take his vegetables and fruit and give them all away at church on Sundays. Richard was very involved in his church throughout his life, teaching Sunday School and serving as an elder. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Ohio Society, Richard Montgomery Chapter. He will be dearly missed by the love of his life, Verna Mae, his four sons, Ron (Elaine) of Kettering, Robert (Mary Ann) of Sugarcreek Township, Stephen (Mary Diane "Dee Dee") of Washington Township, Stanley (Roxanne) of Clearwater Beach, Florida, 5 grandchildren Kimberly Gainor (Pete), Terri Menges (Jamie), Taren Mock (Matt), Kristin Holdeman (Jim), Taylor Rhoads, 8 grandchildren Jacob, Adam, Evan, Caitlin, Amelia, Parker, Logan, Lacy, 2 nephews Phillip Ciano, Richard Sanor, and 1 niece Carolyn Sanor. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters Martha, Sarah "Sally", Gertrude, and his grandson Michael. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 28th, 2017 from 10 am - 11 am at CONNER & KOCH Life Celebration Home, 92 West Franklin Street BELLBROOK, OH 45305. A funeral service will follow at 11 am with pastor J.D. Cash officiating. Burial will take place at Bellbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Walmington Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45420.
