Robert "Bob" G. Cox's Obituary
Cox, Robert “Bob” G., age 71, of Centerville, Ohio, passed away Monday, October 6, 2025, at Miami Valley South Hospital.
Bob graduated from Alter High School, class of ’72. During his high school days, he played the trumpet in the band. Most of his working career was spent at Mead Data Central and American Honda in Troy, where he retired after many years of dedicated service. As a devout Catholic, he was an active member of St. Leonard Faith Community in Centerville.
Family-oriented, generous, funny, ornery, and giving, Bob entertained family and friends by being the king of ‘dad’ jokes and puns. While he was always loyal to Honda, he had a special affinity for Corvettes, especially his 1995 black Corvette. Always passionate about good food, Bob loved cooking and creating new recipes. In particular, his spicy chili and homemade bean soup will always be fondly remembered by the family as some of his best.
During his retirement, Bob greatly enjoyed working as an usher at the University of Dayton basketball and volleyball games, as well as other events at the UD Arena. He and his wife enjoyed playing the slot machines in the local casinos and often vacationed in Las Vegas. In addition, Bob loved visiting Grandpa’s Cheese Barn in Ashland, Ohio, where he loved unique hot sauces, mustards, and cheeses. Among many things, Bob will be remembered for how much he liked Hot Wheels and how he passionately collected thousands of the toy cars. Of all his passions and pastimes, Bob will be remembered most for keeping his lawn cut and manicured to perfection. His favorite quote was “Boys cut the grass, but men mow the lawn!” Over the past couple of years, a great amount of Bob’s personal attention and affection shifted to his grandson, Cooper. Cooper and “Pop” were best buddies!!
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Sy and Marge Cox; Goldie Cox; and one member of his “Zero Club” friends, Tim Kuntz. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandy; daughter, Christa (Doug) Shie; son, Dan (Alex) Cox; grandson, Cooper Co; sister, Barb (Ken) Standifer; special friends, Phil (Kath) Sinewe; and his best friends from the “Zero Club,” Gary (Kathy) Heeb, Bob (Cindy) Sommers and Tim’s wife, Judy Kuntz. In addition, Bob had many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, followed by a mass for all at St. Leonard Faith Community at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Following the mass, guests are encouraged to attend a reception at St. Leonard's to celebrate Bob’s life with food and fellowship. If desired, contributions may be made to St. Leonard Faith Community. Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook is serving the family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.connerandkoch.com.
