Robert "Bob" C. DeLong's Obituary
DELONG, Robert “Bob” Charles, age 86, of Bellbrook, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025, surrounded by family at home.
Bob was born September 30, 1938, in Peoria, Illinois, to the late Clifford Charles and Beatrice (Snell) DeLong. Bob attended Woodruff High School in Peoria, where he graduated in 1957. Following graduation, he enrolled at Bradley University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and subsequently served proudly in the United States Army.
Bob began his career in 1967 at Technology/Scientific Services Inc., providing scientific services and support to the aerospace and defense industries. Bob was promoted to the position of Chief Engineer in 1975, served as General Manager, and was subsequently promoted to President of the Technology/ Scientific Services Inc. division of Krug International.
In 1975, Bob looked up an old acquaintance, asked her to dinner, and what followed was a relationship lasting nearly 50 years. It was the making of a true love story. Bob and Donna were married on August 11, 1976.
Bob was a fantastic husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was also a good friend and mentor and was looked up to by many. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Corbyn, as he pursued the status of Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 375. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.
He enjoyed fishing, photography, and woodworking. He enjoyed spending time at his property on Elk Lake in Owenton, Kentucky, BA weekends with Team Suter in Centreville, Michigan, and shooting his M1 Garand.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Beatrice DeLong; one sister, Betty; one brother, Donald; his grandson, Cody Lester; one brother-in-law, Bill Suter; his sister-in-law and good friend, Barb and Ken McDaniel; and dear friends, Harry and Carol Grieselhuber.
Bob is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna; his children, Teri (Bobby) Block, Tamra Temple, Kevin Temple, Laura (Todd) Hartline, and Robyn DeLong; his grandchildren, Jessica (Jim) Hayden, Norah Awad, Saleh Awad, Taylor (Eli) Exum, Griffin Hartline, Alec Hartline, Corbyn DeLong, Chloe Lester, and Cayne DeLong; one great-granddaughter, Eileen Exum; one sister-in-law, Barb Suter; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; good friends, Gary Burnett and Maggie Wiseman, Larry and Doris Tackett, and many, many more.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Bellbrook Cemetery. Lunch will follow at 11:00 AM at the American Legion Post #598 located at 5700 Kentshire Dr., Kettering, OH, 45440.
